New Shilen Ratchet

Well I just received a new Shilen Ratchet 4 groove,.812 no taper. I hope I didn't make a big mistake on the .812 no taper. This is going on my 40X #2. It has a Benchmark 2 groove rev. tapper 16.5 twist. Sometimes this would shoot like a house afire and the next target would be a total disaster. It seemed to be really inconsistent.I shrugged it off as just shooter error.Late in the summer I went back to 40X #1 and stated shooting consistently better. So this summer we will try another shilen and hopefully a lot more consistent. I think the cold and radical changes in DA up here are a lot of the problems with the 2 groove. Then again The old shooter error comes in.

What twist is your ratchet? I have two 1 in 16 4 groves I had put on in 2000 or 2001. I didn't care for them, but still have them for a retry some day. But I understand the new ratchets are much better. I heard rumors the tolerances are much better. I also may not have been patient enough. After several barrels I finally stuck with Lilja 6 grove 1 in 17's that are pretty good but not great. but I've spent to much money on barrels.

It is a 1 in 16. I'm sure it will work. Well kinda sure:, We have had several guys try the 17 twist up here without any success.

MW:D

I have always had the impression that a slower twist works best in warmer weather. Since you only have summer in the second week of July :D I think your smart staying with the 1 in 16. Rich
