New savage firing pin different from old pin?

Got a replacement firing pin assembly pictured on the left next to my old firing pin on the right. At first i thought i ordered the wrong thing but it appears the new one despite being different still works. What is the deal with the extension on my old firing pin? The gun is a model 12 223 Varmint I bought back in 2017.

The new spring is also thinner - nothing strikes harder than a thinner spring.

Someone got a raise for reducing part of a part, exchanging a stainless part with a blued one, and reducing the amount of expensive spring steel used.

Good to know. Just wanted to make sure I didn't screw it up and install something incompatable.
