New Savage 6BR!

I was reading on http://www.savageshooters.com/ today that this year they were introducing a Savage target model 6BR.

To quote the article written by Jim Baker " Presently Savage has models for F-Class and NRA High Power, but what about the benchrest shooters? Offering a new model utilizing the new right-bolt/left port Target action, a 26-inch heavy barrel chambered in 6mm BR Norma, and a laminate stock with a wide-flat forend designed specifically for use with a front rest and rear bag would be ideal. The longer barrel would make it suitable for both short and long-range benchrest shooting, and it's only one SKU to add to the list."

From the article...

"To simplify things I have come up with the following theoretical changes. The main goal here is to 1) reduce the number of very similar models being offered, and 2) expand the product line to fill existing voids. None of what follows is based on personal preference, rather it's based on basic marketing principles and providing product to fill a known void in the product line."

That said... Savage did release an '08 product lineup in early December... and it listed a LRPV in 6mm BR,12 or 14 twist) and a 12 F-Class in 6mm BR,presumably 8 twist).

I know that Baker had been pushing for these chamberings for a couple of years.

They will be a great addition to Savage's lineup. I'm glad to see that this is one company who is listening to its customers.

Absolutely right guys. It is time for the manf. to listen to the customers. Those will be an asset to the Savage Line. Bill

I don't own any savage rifles at this time, but that is going to change in a hurry.
I have heard very positive things about their rifles, for the most part) and they seem to really want to give shooters the rifles they want in the calibers they want.

I would love to see Savage open up a "Custom Shop" were they would build rifles that get the extra QC in parts and assembly along with features that hunters and competition shooters want.

I was going to order one of their new target actions very soon,
I think I'll wait a bit to see what they offer for 2008.

Glad someone straightened him out on that article. I read his post and was like "I know I didn't say that!" Well chalk that one up to selective comprehension to meet one's own wants/needs. ;)

Sorry Mr. Furious, I guess I just skim read the article for what I was looking for and didn't read the part I was corrected on. Really sorry.

It's all good!

In all honesty I really can't see Savage offering a benchrest specific rifle as there's no sanctioned factory classes. As such, most shooters wanting to get into benchrest on a budget with a Savage will likely just get a target action to build on.

Mr. Furious,

There are more than a few guys out there building varmit and hunting rifles in 6BR and 30BR calibers.
I was kind of surprised at this but what the heck they are accurate and effective calibers for many situations. Seems like everybody wants the best accuracy they can get in any rifle.

If Savage offered a well put together rifle with the ability to extract the inherent accuracy of these cartridges,at a reasonable price), I would buy one tomorrow.

Maybe if they did offer such a rifle others would follow and there would be official class for them.

Mr. Furious, I second dipper's emotion. Going by the accuracy of my 6.5 X 284 F/class and my 22-250 LRPV that I have only begun to work with, I'd buy one in a heartbeat. Build it. We will come. Bill

I do not own any Savage rifles; however, when I can lay my hands on a 6BR with an 8 twist from Savage, I will be the proud owner of one. Shortly thereafter I will probobly add a 30 BR barrel to play with.
