new rings wanted any advice?

I'm looking for a nice, tidy set of quality rings to fit a picatinny rail. i have leupold quick release rings on other rifles and i do not use that feature and i don't like how the top half of the ring must be forced over the tube. i have considered burris z's but they are probably better on a hunting rifle. the nightforce rings are nice and sturdy but they put a huge freaken bolt on the side to be tacticooool! something like BAER rings would be ideal is there any factory made rings like this? yes.... i am fussy but Ive gone this far

I put Burris Signature rings on everything. No more lapping, you can center the recticle in the scope and zero the gun at your chosen range, and no more ring marks on the scope. I have done this on everyting from .22 to 338 and never had an issue.

thanks for the tips guys! those ken farrel rings look nice neat and sturdy. how do the burris signature differ from the z's?

The Signature rings are dovetail turn in...this is what I always use...I like the plastic insert system along with the rear windage adjustable base...works for me ! The Sig Zees use a Weaver style base with cross slots...

The difference between the Z's and the Signatures is the Z's DO NOT have the derlin inserts, where as the signatures do have them, and they are the only one to use...
Both the Z's and the Signatures will fit in a Weaver style base..., and they can be had in a Double Dovetail but they are trouble if your receiver holes are not spot on for alinement...
Burris Signature standard rings have a dove tail in the front and the rear sets in a windage adjustable slot, and still use the inserts.. The standard Z's do not use the inserts.......

Signature rings come in the same models as other Burris rings. The 'Signature' part just means they have plastic inserts.....as in Signature Zee. Since these came out I stopped using conventional rings. You wouldn't believe how far out of alignment standard rings can be.....Redfield, Ruger, and yes Leupold. Less than perfect alignment means the scope bends to fit them. After dealing with rings that need lapping for perfect alignment, most all of them), and scratched/gouged scope tubes, these Signatures are simply the best.

:confused:OK OK i found some good pics as well and i see the only real difference between signature and standard are signature have inserts. my rifle is a bat M with a one piece 20MOA solid rail running a nightforce 8-32BR so i doubt ill be need the adjustment of the rear ring like the standard rings provide and the turn in rings are not designed for a picattiny rail. so from what i can see the best option would be a set of what they call universal rings/bases if you had a tricked up rem etc or in my case i should prob go for the Burris signature Z's 30mm?? has anyone got a setup like this and what height mounts did you use?

I don't know what barrel contour you have .I have a 1.350 straight contour on a Rem with a Barrel block and I use the HIGH Sig Zee rings,Picatanny/Weaver style)with the plastic inserts. In 30mm with a Burris 8x32 Blk Dia.mounted I have about 3/16' clearance between the BBL block and scope. That's with .020 taper -.01 +.01 30mm inserts in. .......BTW Signature rings are TURN IN with inserts, Signature ZEE rings are Picatanny/Weaver style with inserts. just so that's cleared up.

I really like the Leupold cross slot base rings like the QRW and PRW. They are about as tough as their over priced Mark IV rings. I have had nothing but great luck with them. They snap easily over the scope tube. I have them in 1' and 30mm. I don't think you are really gaining much with the hefty steel tactical ones.

If you have a BAT and a one-piece base, you probably won't benefit much from having the adjustable Signature rings.

You might also want to consider Warne rings. They are built solid and true, heavy and if mounted carefully they will not leave any rings at all. They are vertical split rings, which make them inherently stronger, and its easier to level the scope in them -- believe it or not. I also bought Burris rings, but removed them because the inserts did not satisfy me and the weak bottom cross bolt lent itself to not being able to be tightened enough. Warne's are as snug as they get for $50 rings. They are also known for being recoil proof.

Truth is, most any ring set in the $50 range and above is going to be good.
