new remington 700 trigger issues

A friend of mine just bought a new remington 700 for grounhogs in 22-250 and I was helping him work up a load for it. The trigger is absolutely horrible like 8-9 lbs of pull and he is on a tight budget so I tried to install my old trigger off of my old 700 (my current hog rifle has a jewel 1.5oz) and nothing worked . Has remington changed there trigger around so you can't install an older adjustable style. This new one is non adjustable. Its a little tough to fight through 9lbs and still be steady at 300yds.

well.i haven't tried to change out the trigger, but i read where a good many shooters have?? but you should be able to get the new trigger down to around 2#,don't mess with the screw in the trigger guard as it won't get you below 3.5# even if you remove it. take the action out of the stock scrape off all the sealent on the bottom front screw(same place as the old ones)be sure you get it all out of the screw head where the little allen wrench goes in. may have to bump it back and forth a few times to brake it loose, then adjust the pull wt. with it. if that doesn't get you a lighter pull, you can get lighter springs from"erniethegunsmith.com"

Yes, the older and newer ones are interchangeable. If you have a complete old style trigger with safety and bolt release levers you will need to drive out the two pins.

Pay careful attention to the bolt release lever and spring as far as how it is installed so you can re-install as you tap the pin back through the spring and lever. That is the 'trickiest" part.

Also the job is easier if you have a couple of short pins or dowells through the trigger you are installing to keep the sear in place.

Good luck.

I have a complete trigger assembly from my old 700 and it fit as far as the pins lined up but the trigger didnt work (the bar/sear was in place and the spring was still in place underneath it ). I dont know what is going on ive changed triggers in guns before but this one puzzled me.The gun cocks but the trigger does nothing.I will try it again because it was late when i tried to install it .Maybe I screwed up
