I have one in stainless steel. Just like the other 700 actions except it has a solid bottom. Mine has had all the surfaces and threads trued but it is still a Remington. I was fortunate (or lucky) the extraction timing was pretty good and the firing pin hole was ok but don't bet on it. The ejector spring will need shortening unless you want to send the brass into the next county. If you chamber in a short case such as a 6BR and anneal your cases you can depend on dented case mouths no matter how short you cut the spring. If you can do all of the machine work or get it done free and correctly go for it. Otherwise part with the additional expense and buy one of the custom clones.

They were meant for the 700 muzzle loader, but have been dished out like the other 700 line. The threads in my few were damn near perfect, the faces were less than .001" off from the raceway. Lugs were in the same boat. Good actions for the price, like said before though, timing is a bit off.

Midwestgunworks gets them in stock every once in a while and they are $450.00. Go to their site and put your E mail address in for one and they will notify you when they come in. I think you have 24 hours to buy it or you're SOL till next batch. I have purchased 2 of them.
When I was shooting at the Bergers this last Feb. the guy shooting for Remington told me that Remington was coming out with a single shot long action. He saw my F Open rifle that I was using a long action for my 6.5x47 Lapua and I told him that I machined a piece of steel to go in the bottom and tig welded it in there to make it stronger, and a single shot That's when we got to talking and he told me about that.

Anybody heard anything about them?

I am really pissed, I asked my Remington sales rep if single shot actions were available, she said "no". I bought 14 repeater actions. Just the actions, no bolts, no bottom metal, no triggers. Plan to use my own bolts, and bolt handles, recoil lugs, Jewell triggers, and Hawkins or Sunny hill bottom metal.
Sounds like I need to double check with my sales rep.

You have to have an account to see the dealer pricing, it's worth the hassle to create an account if you're an ffl holder.

I picked this action up late last year. After awhile I had the bits and pieces to get a rifle built. Ronnie Long did a great job on it.
He said when he checked the action, all he needed to do was a light pass on the face to true it. The lug fit was better to be worn in, rather than lapped in, possibly affecting the jewelling. Pretty much a deer rifle, definitely a keeper. These actions are nice.

Specs:
Broughton 5.5 8 twist 6.5, chambered in 6.5x47L
HS Precision ADL stock, bedded
Single Shot Rem action
Factory trigger with pull adjustment screw and spring removed; breaks just over 3lbs
BAT Machine trigger guard, with front screw hole added.
Leupold CDL Wind Plex scope
Talley rings and bases

The ejector spring will need shortening unless you want to send the brass into the next county.

I have a factory Savage with a single shot Left Port Right Bolt Target Action that I certainly like shooting on the bench for this reason. I can cycle the action with my right hand and catch the ejected case with my left. Looks a little odd, but functions well!
