New rear bag for Savage 12F

Just received new Protektor rear bag yesterday. Fits stock great. Ordered the Dr. flat top bag with 1'' spacing cordura ears and the flat base w/ handle and filled with heavy sand. Haven't shot with bag, but feels very stable.

It varies a bit. The buttplate end measures about .875" in tapers up toward the trigger to about 1.2"

You have bag ear width that is "consistent," and a lower rear butt width that is "inconsistent?"

Not good.

Just a suggestion, but I highly recommend you bring those two dimensions into conformity, if you want to experience smooth tracking.

here is my flat top with tall ears

What was the price?? Who is selling them??

I got it right from the manufacturer. I dont remember the cost I originally got it last December. I think it would be the DR. Flat top with high cordura ears.

Paid $140. for mine. I added the handle on bottom and filled with heavy sand. Ordered from factory. Took 1 week to get.

That price sounds very fair all filled with heavy sand. Edgewood gets that much for a empty bag and they won't make it for the wide "F" stocks at any price.

I just got mine, a nearly identical setup, but with 1/2" spacing between the ears and probably a little higher than yours. Meant to be for my new PR&T F-class low boy, which has a 5/8" flat along the toe, but also for use with my 2 SSS LVT stocks, which have a half-round profile on the toe.

My PR&T won't be back from the smith for bedding and clearcoat for another week or so, but the bag works great with the LVTs. Both stocks do not touch the center space but instead ride the ears slightly above. The ears were packed rock hard, I took some sand out to make them more pliable and crammed the extra sand into the main bag.

If I remember correctly the Savage F-open stock is mostly 0.875" and parallel along the toe and only tapers up to blend in with the bottom of the pistol grip in the last inch or two (though I could be wrong, it's been a while since I saw one of those guns). As long as the bag rides in the parallel part he should be fine.

If you look at the stock from the bottom, the flat along the toe only flares out near the pistol grip.
