New Pierce .300wsm

After learning a bunch from this web site i put together a new hunting rifle. Thanks for all the help guys.

Ok here it is
Pierce long action
Broughton barrel throated for the 210 berger VLDs
Jewell trigger
All this is in a bell and carlson tactical stock. Soon to be a custom stock of some sort.

After a couple trips to the range my best 3 shot group at 100m is just under .375. But what has impressed me the most is the group i shot with it at 500m just under 2.250 for 3 shots (blind squirrel finds a nut). I know this may not be a big deal to some of you guys but to me it is the best shooting rifle i have ever been behind. Now i have a bug to build one of the bench guns you guys talk about.

I think you did real good. That is a powerful cartridge and I have been shooting for years and have trouble flinching with these heavier calibers.Keep up the good work.If you build a benchgun, what type or range will you be shooting at?After you tell me that I will suggest what to chamber in.

This rifle does have a brake so that makes it a kitten just hops a bit in the bags. I am looking at shooting 600 and 1000 yrd Fclass the 6br really has my attention. The 600 yrd stuff i think the br would be great but it may fall short on the 1000 yrd stuff. I am all ears and would welcome any info you would like to share. I would have my hands full with the 600 yrd stuff and that is what all but maybe one shoot a year would be.

Lets see some pics of this new build..... i have a Pierce L/A Competiton action build that should be done sometime this week. 7mm SAUM w/ broughton 30" and jewel trigger as well in a A-5 stock. Sounds like you have found a pretty good load for your rifle.

With the stock you have, you might want to consider setting yourself up with a 308 barrel and extra bolt and shooting F-T/R instead of F-Open because F-Open has gotten to be very expensive. If you are shooting F-Open, the rifle and everything that moves when it moves must weigh less than 22 pounds and muzzle breaks are prohibited in all F-Class matches, Open and T/R. Derek Rogers won the 2010 F-Open Nationals with a 300WSM so it can clearly be made to work for F-Class. Bryan Litz talked about these big calibers during a clinic at the recent Berger SW Nationals in Phoenix. He talked about having a sort of recoil budget that is really a matter of what an individual can handle comfortably without flinching. Most F-Class 1000 yard F-Class matches are 20 shot strings and 2 or three matches per day so a person really has to give recoil tolerance some serious thought. The 6BR is highly successful in F-Open up to 600 yards but most top competitors are shooting a 7mm of some sort, 280 Rem, 280AI, 284 Win, 284 Shehane, 7mmRSAUM or 7mmWSM, beyond 600 yards because the 180 grain bullets seem to combine a very high BC bullet in the 2900+fps range with managable recoil without a muzzle break. You might want to try shooting your rifle prone with the brake off to get sense of the recoil. Then, you can always go to a 7mmRSAUM or WSM barrel with your boltface if the 300WSM is more than you want to deal with without the brake. You would probably want a different barrel for F-Class anyway. Most are using a straight 1.250 barrel in the 30 to 32 inch range. These barrels will usually make the 22 pounds weight limit even with a heavy scope like a Nightforce. Either way, F-T/R or F-Open, you might want to read the NRA F-Class rules before you start spending money.

Ok this is my first picture post so we will see what it looks like.

Is this a single shot or repeater? If repeater, what magazine, follower and bottom metal do you have to make it feed? How does it feed?

Thx

It is a repeater. Bottom metal is pacific tool. The box and follower i am not sure i believe just a standard rem. The barrel is throated for the 210 berger with a OAL of 3.090 so it fits the box mag nice. Pierce provided the box and follower i am not sure what him and his guys did to tune it but it feeds flawless they do very nice work. And i have heard all the bad things of the .300 WSM feeeding problem and i expressed my concerns and they said no problem a little tuneing and it should be fine.

OK, I didn't realize that you had Pierce do the smithing on it. I guess with a long action, the metal isn't as critical. Is this your reamer or Pierce's?

Thanks
It is Pierce's reamer i have to give him all the credit for steering me in the right direction on this build.
