I started my LPR life with a Savage action mounted to a laminated stock from Boyd’s. Recently I finished building a custom rifle based on a Big Horn Origin action. I mated the barreled action to an Oryx chassis from MDT. As you know, chassis geometry is different from a traditional wood stock – the comb comes straight back. The cheek rest is adjustable, but only drops down to comb height. This is requires me to raise the height of my scope quite a bit. Before I ran out to buy ridiculously high rings, I decided to see if there were any possibilities to lower the cheek rest. It turns out that with a little machining of the plastic cheek rest, I was able to lower the cheek rest about 3/16 of an inch. This might give me enough clearance in the prone position. If not, I will also switch from TPS super low rings to TPS medium rings.
