New Load Work up using Barts method and LT32/223A

223A Krieger barrel. Remington 40x single shot. 52 gr Fowler bullets moly. Lapua brass. CCI 450s.

@BartsBullets told me to start by using "hard jamb" first. So, I found hard jamb was essentially about what I find to be "touching" plus 20 thou.

Bart told me to get the LT32 powder so I did.

three shots each. 100 yards.

I found the low node which is node #3 (this would most likely be the fireforming node), the next node which is node #6 (maybe fire forming load? Might be a bit too hot), and still need to go up more to find the very top node which should be at 26.6-27.

Holy crud. Aside from getting caught with a bit of mirage on node 6 on the second target.

Here is the 40 grain Varmageddon. I seated the bullet to .22" inside the case (1.888" to the ogive). Seating to the lands was not practical. I never hit pressure. Need to go up another .5 grain to a full grain. But as you can see the velocities are KICK BUTT and none of the groups were bad for varmint hunting. The last group at 27.2 (3875 fps) is still more than acceptable for Pdogs or Ghogs. I think I can get it over 4000 FPS, but I will have to use a longer drop tube.20180311_101435.jpg

The Shadetree is so saaawwweeet.

You might want to consider switching to LT30 for the 40s. Another powder that could be useful for those is Accurate 2230 which is the same powder as Xterminator in a different package.

Just bought 16 lbs of LT 32 (I really want another 8 lbs). Haven't seen much in the way of LT 30 around.

I was not suggesting that you need to have work done on it, only speaking to the issue of whether it had been bushed. In many cases bushed bolt faces are done in conjunction with reducing the firing pin tip diameter and in some cases extending its length to work with a bushing that has a deeper hole than stock so that the tip does not come out during the cocking and firing cycle.

It appears to be a stock 40x bolt. I never thought to look.

@BoydAllen

I bet you are right. I bet that LT30 would be the PERFECT 40 grain powder, especially if you had plans to load on a progressive for Pdogs. I may grab a lbs if I can find any.
