New Leupold Scopes

I am not sure what Leupold claims to have done to their top of the line Vari-x III scopes for 2005, but I am curious if anyone out there knows what they did and is it a significant improvement? I have always thought they were the best for the money, but after my eyes hit 40 they seem to be telling me to get the best I can afford. I am wondering how they compare to Nikon Monarchs, price) and Zeiss one inch, overall quality) for for overall quality. Any feedback would be very helpful
Thanks in advance.

The last ones issued by Leupold are the Mark IV series, especially the MK IV LR M1's.

They have exactly the same great optical quality we use to see on Leupold's and the immedialtely appearent difference is the design of the turrets : instead of having turrets and dials covered by are removable cover, they do not have any cover on the dials, and the shooter can easealy see the dials at any time and they are still very resistant to rain and humidity. I used at least five times mine,8.5-25x50) under continuous rain over days and yet, I do not notice any problem at all !
