New Lapua 6.5 Creedmoor depriming pin size (small flash hole)

I understand the flash hole diameter in the new brass with the small primer has an unusually small opening. Anyone using this brass now and if so, what kind of depriming die are you successfully using? The only one I have found anyone says works consistently is the LEE Universal Depriming Die....

Its a PPC/BR flash hole... probably 0.59 vs. 0.80... same as on a 6 BR, 6.5x47L or .308 Palma.

You'll either need to change out the tip for a smaller PPC/BR sized decapping pin, or if its solid on the Lee, spin the stem in a drill and touch it with a file to turn it down to desired size.

Thanks!

I use the Lee depriming die on my 6.5x47L cases. Someone told me this was ok. Worked. Did I screw up?

I have the Redding universal decapping die set. It comes with a small decapping rod that works perfect with the small flash hole.

I use the Lee Universal Depriming Die, mine came with a regular pin but I used a drill to grind it down to the right size. The first time I just used as it was and it only lasted a few days, but the second one I harden it by getting red hot with a torch and then dropping in water to quench it. I have been using it now on thousands of cases in the last two years without any problems.

Good luck,

Joe

I spoke to Lee who said they have no plans to make any decapper pins in the .059 dia. The tech guy said they recommend drilling out the brass!

...and that guy is an idiot. Don't do that. Getting a flash hole reamer for PPC that opens them up from 0.059" to 0.061" so the decapping pins in sizing dies don't get stuck is one thing. Opening them up to 0.080" is just stupid.

That's what they told me also a couple of years ago. That's why I ordered 3 and I turned them down with a drill a grinding stone. Once I hardened it the problem was solved.

I sure wouldn't mess with opening up the flash holes, o_O you know about the law of unintended consequences, right?

Chucked a decapping rod and pin into a drill press and with 400 grit sand paper reduced the standard pin diameter to what was required to remove the expended small primer in Lapua 6.5 CM brass.
