New Hunting Rig in 6.5x47L Beanland Built

Jons built me a few rifles in the past so I finally got around to having him build me a hunting rig in 6.5x47L. Trued Rem 700, Rock 1-8 RV finished @ 20", PTG Handle, Side BR, McMillan A1-3, throated for the 130 VLD's, I wanted BM with a mag but didn't want anything sticking out of the bottom so I went with HS BM ...trying to lose a little weight I had Kampfeld flute the barrel (8 flutes) and the bolt. Badger Alloy 20MOA base TPS Alloy rings, Leupold 4.5x14, bringing her to 10lbs as she sits.
As always with Jon everything turned out better than imagined!!

Now I just need hunting season to come around again :)

Can you seat bullets to mag length with that FB?
Thanks

Absolutely, OAL to the lands is 2.760 which leaves me with plenty of room. PR is just above the neck shoulder junction.

I agree with all 10 fold, its a nice rifle for sure and you have posted some real nice stuff also in the past. I have seen posts of John,s rifles and he sure builds a mean stick for sure. Congrats on your new build. Would like to hear from you on what velocitys you are getting out the 20 inch barrel when you get a chance to give it a work out.

+1 I would love to see what the Vel are from the 20" barrel. Wouldn't think they would be bad but would like to hear what you end up with? Great build!!

I've got a few 6.5x47's and have shot H4350, Varget, RL15 in them...after running some #'s thru Quickload, (if I got my info right!!) it looks like RL17 can get me almost to 2800 with good burn & fill rate....but theres nothing like running it over a chrony and getting some cold hard facts and seeing where my nodes are....Honestly though I won't be banging my head with this one since its a hunting rig and I know I can almost load and go with a few proven loads.

Beautiful rifle sir! Looks like she'll be the ultimate hunting rig. Well done : )

Sweet! If you don't mind, how much do you have in it including the smith charges? I am thinking of my next hunting build and this would fit the bill.

No problem, $2325 for all Smith work, fluting, and parts except for the action & trigger which I had but action still needed to be trued.

Stock 400
HSBM 225
Barrel 300
Fluting (Barrel & Bolt, bolt bushed) 225
Smith work ( Chamber/Crown, True action, Oversized Lug, Pin lug, Pillar Bed, Side Bolt Release, PTG Handle and Knob Tigged on, Small area on stock I wanted fixed, & Cerakote, )..1175.00

Thank you Sir. Much appreciated.

Looks like exactly what I was thinking of building. What contour is the barrel and what diameter at the muzzle? Congrats, a well thought out build.

Its a Remmy Var contour so its 1.250 at the shank and .830 at the muzzle.

Dan,
I couldn't wait to shoot it any longer even though its a bit cold and windy here so I loaded up 12 rds of H4350 at 40.6 with 130 Hunting VLD's just on the lands, a load that has worked in most of my 47's...so no load developement.

4 rds for sighting in, cleaned after each 2 shots, then off to some 1' dots at 100yrds. Had the chrono set up, I got 2714 fps for the 5 shot average..not bad for a 20" tube..
Top group was 5 with the cleaned barrel, bottom was my last three

Very nice!

I had a hunting 6.5x47L built on a Stiller Predator a couple years back, right at a 8.5# with 23" #3 Broughton barrel with McMillian "classic" stock (pretty much duplicated a Remington Classic). It has proven quite aduquate in the deer woods. It always shot well with the Sierra & Nosler hunting bullets I shot but I finally tried some 130 Bergers late last year & they shot VERY well with 40.5gr of R17.

You will be very happy with your gun. It's a great chambering.
