New hear

Hi I'm new hear and didn't see a specific place for introductions so I hope this is the right place to post this.
Im pretty new to rifle shooting and figured this would be a good resource for information. I have 2 rifles a savage 22 mag and a Remington 700. 7mm rem mag. I have been looking around the site a bit and can't find any reference to a 7mm rem mag. and was wondering if this was referred to by another name.

First off, welcome!

You probably don't find many references here for 7mm Rem. Mag. in a general search because it's not typically a caliber you find in competition. You'll find that this website is primarily geared towards competitive shooting which often involves a lot of wildcat and one-off cartridges. However, you'll likely find lots of information and help in the Varmint & Hunting board on this site as the 7mm Rem Mag is a *great* hunting round. Very accurate, fast, and powerful. Up until recently, it was my primary Elk rifle. Lots of bullets to choose from so if you are thinking about reloading for it, you have a lot of options.

Welcome. You will be suprised, there is much more here than what you think. Most of the time I find stuff that I didn't know I was looking for and helped me out in other ways.

The 7mmRem Mag is my favorite of all the belted Mags. I love the 130 to 140s for most everything in this caliber. With this weight recoil isn't much and ballistics are awesome! If you Reload than this is a great place as well. You'll find stuff for sale here real cheap and load info if you just ask. Good Luck.

I'll bet there a ton of folks here that can help with that 7MM Mag. Welcome to the forum and just ask your questions, it's that easy.

Robert,
I know you won't believe this but I have waited all evening for you to post on this thread, I did not want to steal your glory ;D

gaw76,
This is a excellent place to place this thread,..Welcome to the forum. I own a seven Mag but I don't like to publish load data on the forum unless it is a standard load, my 7mm is way over book so I will keep my load work to myself but if you ask this question on the reloading forum or on the big stuff forum you will get a lot of info. I will say I like H-4831 in my 7 and heavy bullets but it will shoot the 139's very good as well.
Wayne.

Welcome gaw76;

I've only been on for a few months and I'm not a competition shooter either, I shoot prairie dogs and lots of them here in the West. But I have found a lot of info just looking around. Starter a couple builds on rifles from barrels I found on here. So lots of info, again Welcome.

To All,
This is a precision gun forum but all that are willing to act in a professional manner are welcome , not speaking for him but I believe the forum boss would be the first to agree with that statement, I cruised this forum for years before becoming a member or a competitive shooter, I was a competitive shooter for myself and liked precision rifles and this forum helped me reach those goals. This forum is really what sparked my interest in actually competing. There are a lot of great people on here and some have never owned a competition rifle yet they still have something to contribute, knowledge is knowledge, WELCOME ALL
Wayne.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I appreciate all the responses.
The explanation that this is more a hunting round than a competitive target round makes perfect sense. I was thinking maybe I had gotten bad advice on gun selection for a minuet there. But since I am mainly interested in hunting with it I feel better.
I want to get to be a very accurate shot with the guns I use, Even though I don't currently plan on shooting competitively. Although that may change once I get more experienced.

I think once I've shot for a while I will be interested in getting set up for reloading. And will have plenty of questions about what equipment to start out with.

As far as getting rounds down range is there any one in West Mi. that gets together at local ranges. I'd like to find a few people to go shooting with.
