New guy with a 6BR (new to forum)

I bought a rifle from pawn shop in 6mm BR. The owner said it wouldn't feed right. It is on a Savage 110 action and has a Leupold 12X scope on it, It also has a 28" stainless barrel. The barrel is stamped 6 BR N ( 8 ) The trigger is set to 2.2lbs
I assume the 8 stands for 8 twist. No other stamping. The barrel looks great inside. It has the blk synthetic stock.
Any Idea on who's the maker of this barrel by the way it is stamped.
It came with the Redding custom 3 die set and 20 rounds loaded and 20 empty cases. I pulled one of the rounds and found it was a 80gn Nosler BT and what appears to be 30.1 gn Varget powder
This caliber is new to me.
Went to the range this morning to shoot what came with the rifle. One of the Shoot n see targets with a hole on right side was already at the 100 yd so I used it to see how it shoots. 1st round caught me by surprise because of light trigger, next 4 not to bad. Think I will keep it.
The guy that put this together wanted a repeater and got frustrated because it wouldn't feed. This is a large Savage action. I bought it and will use it as a single shot, no problem. I already found the 6 BR guide and am reading up on this cartridge.
Any other info will be helpful and appreciated.
thanks
I don't think I got hurt for $350.00

now I see this should have been down a few lines on the 6BR forum.

Welcome to the forum. The best bet to find out whos barrel it is , is to call the pawn guy and see if he would contact the person who pawned it to see if he knows. ^ BR N means 6 br norma which is the normal chambering for this time period. You stole it with the 12x leupold. The only thing I would do is see if you can get rid of the plastic stock and get a composite like a HS Precision, stockade, mcmillan or a good laminate and have them bedded and it will probably shoot better.

this was the bargin of the century! i also lucked upon such a bargin once. it was a heavy stainless barrel in a modified wooden stock in .243...$350. store owner said it was too heavy to carry deer hunting and it didn't have a crown. my gunsmith looked at it and said the barrel was worth $350...it was an 8 micro groove shilen made in the 1970s and the twist was 14 so as to shoot light bullets, not deer. the prior owner made it to shoot prarie dogs. you indeed have a great bargin and a shooter. since i discovered the 6 BR my other guns, except the 22 BRS, don't get shot much. you will learn all you need on this site. keep us posted.

Been looking around for some Brass and when I was in Missoula I called Consignment gun store and they had just got a bunch of reloading gear in from an estate. They had a bunch of Lapua stuff including 6br. The pricing was very close to retail as everything was new in sealed boxes. I latched onto 3- 100 count boxes of 6br in blue box, 2- 100 count boxes of Lapua 105gn Scenar and a box of Berger 65 gn Match. There were many more boxes of Lapua brass and bullets in various calibers.
There was a Redding 3 die competition set for 180.00 but figured I would stay with the custom 3 die set of redding I got with the rifle.
At least I didn't have to pay shipping. Now I'm ready to start loading. Our range only goes to 300 yards but it will be a start.

what appears to be 30.1 gn Varget powder.

I want to know how you figured it was Varget ? I sure as hell wouldn't
even venture a guess....Now maybe if it was red or green dot.. :o

What appears to be, not what it is, looking at both side by side. Also I see a lot of loads using 30.1 gn of varget for this bullet, but of course I will do my own loads and figure what is good for my rifle
