NEW GUN

JUST GOT A NEW MODEL 12 SAVAGE LRPV IN 6BR NORMA.IT'S A 1/12 TWIST, AND I'M TRYING TO FIND A GOOD PLACE TO START WITH LOAD DEVELOPMENT.

Blinky,
Since I own several Savage rifles in various calibers, I've played around with bullet weights and powdesr quite a bit. As you might know, there are recommendations around for the bullet weight to barrel ratio you use. According to one such chart by one of the premier barrel manuifacturers, a 1:12 should not exceed 87-88 gr bullet weight. Just to show you how how much that can be off in SOME barrels, I've been shooting 68 Barts target bullets in my Savage Benchrest 1:8 Target model for quite a while (being pushed by 31 gr of Vihta Vuori N133 powder) @100 yds and getting some fantasic results (5 shot - 1/4 inch stuff) since I'm into accuracy and not for hunting. SO since those 68 grs are SUPPOSEDLY intended for 1:12/1:14 twist barrels, might I suggest you try some if you can buy less than the 500 bullets they usually come in. Might try and give Bart's a call and see if you can buy less for testing. Just a thought for something to try. Good Luck and have fun with that NEW baby!
