What kind of bases can y’all recommend for an entry level guy

I prefer the Bald Eagle because of the rack and pinion rough vertical adjustment. Harts and Sinclair are good. The Caldwells are good, but a little tall making it tough to get low enough on a range that the target frames a little lower than the bench.

Can the rest top be modified to handle a 5 inch wide stock without much issue, I have a bald eagle base, I was wanting to use one of your tops, but wondering bout the mods to go 5 inch plus ears also

Early versions were 1", i beleive later production changed to 3/4". Cost savings I suppose. Don't know exactly when the change was made. Mine is 2010 vintage and its 1"

The early Caldwells were 1"X12TPI and the later were 7/8"X6 Acme thread.
