Wish you guys would shut up about Jon Beanland, fer cryin' out loud! At least till I get my third one built...
I was on a VERY widy range here in OK yesterday, fireforming cases and breaking in a brand new .20 PPC, and after an hour a guy sets up his rest & rifle two benches to my left. Couldn't hear what he was bragging about, but told him that gun looked like a Beanland build. I was right & he was rightly proud of that .338 Lapua!
Btw, my .20 PPC never once showed any blue/green out of that PacNor 3 groove.
I am going to get another build into the works with Jon. I prefer hunting rifles but am obsessed with fit and finish and accuracy. Getting a 7lb hunting rifle to average under .5" is not easy. I have a Borden built barreled action and a McM stock done by Tom Meredith. It is a great rifle but I do not prefer it to my Beanland build on a Bighorn action. So far, I think the Bighorn action is awesome. I like the concept of the floating bolt head that allows slightly slacker tolerances on the bolt fit. My Borden action is perfect on fit and finish but does not like to get dirty. It starts to chatter when closing the bolt if is not kept clean. There obviously is no free lunch. An action with super tight tolerances is going to complain when dirty. I may pre-order the new Bighorn CRF hunting action. Only problem is that I do not need another rifle. Not even sure what cartridge would choose for another. Have 6.5L and 280AI now. Perhaps could justify a .284 Win for "my kids to shoot"?
