Made it out today to one of my tighter locations so the Encore in .17 Ackley Bee with 20 grain Z-Max got the nod. Picked up two Pups at 74 and 76 yards from the standing position off my adjustable tripod. Noticed when I arrived the Amish kids had their homemade wooden box trap out at one of the High Tension towers. When I glassed it there were two playing around it and one actually had climbed on top of it! I ranged it at 281 yards with a 5 MPH wind at 115 degrees. A real stretch for the Bee and I was unable to maintain center mass from the standing position. I made my way to a closer vantage point and of course when they saw me they went to ground. I got setup sitting with my back against a fence post and adjusted my tripod. I fired up my pipe for the wait from a laser-ed 218 yards. It wasn't too long and back out comes one. Up and down it goes but never up long enough to break the trigger. Next thing I know it climbs back on top of the trap. I couldn't resist and centered the crosshairs and sent it! Heard the hit and got the tail salute while it was still on top! Saw the Farmer unhitching a team so I called it quits. Walked up and told him what had happened and stated that the $1 bounty he pays them counts for that one too! He said if they would have made the shot he would have paid them! ;D He ask me to reset the trap if necessary as I walked out for confirmation. I took a photo of the 6.7 lb. Sow and went to reset the trap but when I peeked inside there was a Pup staring back! I dispatched it execution style and set the trap. I am assuming it was the Sow's pup and that is why she was so enamored with the trap! I left the boys know on my way out and a big bag of candy is in order next trip! You can see part of the trap in the photo below and as far as I know baiting with kin is legal in PA! :
