New Christensen barrel with poorly cut chamber??

I normally bore scope any new rifle to capture a pic before break in. I may be skewed because I looked at the most perfect and pristine SAKO barrel a few weeks back. This Christensen is night and day different. I'm no machinist so please let me know if this one should go back before shooting it. It appears to me that the throat is cut off ce no ter as the rifling starts further in on one side. Also the barrel is copper fouled like it was plated in copper. My guess is the 3 test shots. This to me is an incredible amount of fouling for test shots from the factory.

In all honesty no one on here can help you. You should already have called the people you got it from. Good luck

It’s a basically a production barrel so some run out isn’t surprising
It amazing how well some of those barrels shoot sometimes.
a bunch of early copper isn’t surprising as well.

That copper could be the lube they used to rifle it if they use a button barrel. Its hard to tell much without a borescope but that chamber looks very suspect and should probably go back without delay. They are usually better than that.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the coppery looking 'wash' on a fresh barrel.

As to the chamber, I'm sure they will want to address your concern, provided they actually did the chambering. There might be more to the story. I would not shoot it without having a conversation with them. If you have concerns, now is the time to address it. Every manufacturer or vendor deserves the chance to make a customer happy.

The pics aren't great but they do look ugly. I'd certainly contact them and send them the pics. I'm guessing they'll want to see it. As others have said, it's certainly best to give them a chance to make it right before posting this sort of thing on the web, though. Nobody is perfect but if they are willing to inspect it and make it right, that's being very reasonable. Of course, none of us wants a barrel that is suspect from the get go, but things happen. I think they'll be very accommodating if given the chance. I've owned one Christenson rifle and it was one of the two best shooting factory rifles I've ever owned or seen. Very impressive for a 6lb'ish hunting rifle, to say the least. I probably should've kept it but I sold it back to the man that sold it to me, who is also a good friend.

Follow up to the story... CA took the barrel back postage paid and insured. 2 week turn around. The new barrel is a sub 1/2" shooter. My only gripe in that I purchased a cerakoted rifle with cerakoted barrel yet they installed a barrel with raw steel Lug and end cap on the carbon barrel.

The funny thing about cerekote is that it's nearly impossible to duplicate the exact color once a part has been replaced. Even the slightest variation in hardener would change the color, so both the action and the barrel would need to be recerakoted at the same time to get them to match again....

Once again, it's better to speak with the manufacturer directly especially since they've been helpful so far. Nobody is perfect but they're clearly trying.
