I'm thinking of putting together another big game hunting rifle. I already have a 7 WSM that is shooting awesome but now I'm thinking of putting together another rifle that has a little more power. I have a Savage LA in an Oryx chassis and it uses 3.715 inch magazine. I was leaning towards a 300 PRC build but I noticed it requires a 3.800 inch magazine.
Because of the magazine's 3.715 handicap, I was thinking of a 300 RUM would be perfect. I wish I could stay in the 308 bolt face family and have a non-belted round with updated features in a 30 caliber. Is there another caliber I need to consider? I did think about the 30-06 but I wanted something that will fling some heavy bullets really fast.
