Thinking of building a combo rifle. want to shoot 1000 yds. but be able to hunt with it. I like the .284, but maybe 7 wsm ??? Need help. will spend 2-3k. All info apreciated. Dont know anything about building a rifle. Thanks

what are you hunting with it? my longest kill on a big game animal was with a 260 and 140gr Berger , was doe whitetail.

the 7 WSM with 180gr Bergers or 162 A-max is a great round for shooting way out

Probably mostly whitetail but if im comfortable with new rifle might go out west for mulies or elk

I use a 7saum w/ a Rem 700 long action. I`m pretty sure the factory copy reamer has a long throat that will put the bullet in the neck/shoulder junction and you can seat one out as far as you want in a LA. You`ll need to get a RUM mag box for it to feed good. I use a .315nk now and a normal fired round is .320, if you wanted a no/turn custom chamber .318 would work. Lots of people like the saum better than the wsm and I just wanted to bring it up for advice. I was mov`in a 162Amax @3100+fps w/30", chopped it down to 25" and get around 2950 w/ the same load now. My bbl is getting "tired" but it still shoots .5 or better as far as I fire it.
