New Blog: Does Ammo Go Bad with Age?

Depends...

In 1981 or 82 I bought a Trapdoor Springfield. The dealer took me down to the basement and showed me a full case of military issue 1884 (crate) stamped 45-70 BP ammunition. Over the next year, I shot all 500 rounds. Zero misfires.
So, yes.

Yes, it can go bad. This is why the military lot tests and condemns bad lots. Powder breaks down, primers go dead, cases corrode from the inside due to corrosive product of powder breakdown.
Lots of surplus ammo goes click duh duh duh bang or just click.
I was recently given 1950s Winchester brand 270 that was corroding from the inside out.

De[ends a lot on how it was stored and kept from damaging elements i.e. moisture, temperature and such.
I have had some very old 06 ammo turn up that was 80 yrs old and it still fired with no issues. Also some very old 30 carbine ammo.
