New Barrel

I would drop the Toyota and go with a Broughton barrel. I may be overstating, but I can almost clean it with one patch. And accuracy in spades.
Not meant to take anything away from the Broughtons. I've shot them and they are excellent barrels. Another data point for the discussion, I recently rebarreled a .17 Fireball with a Pac-Nor supermatch, 1-9, three groove. I use VV-N133 exclusively with all weight bullets. Two patches and its clean, no copper, no powder residue.

Thanks for the conversation. I've been using 52gr Amax for years. When they started getting hard to find, I went to the 53gr Vmax. This is my go to rifle for varmints. Made another with a Win M70, one can cool while you use the other. Just looking for a quality barrel. View attachment 1017311

My results as well with a barrel burnin 22-250. 52 Sierra BTHP match is what I use and a 50 Vmax and Varminator at times. We carry 4-5 rifles. and a 22 pistol.. 204, 223, 22-50 22 Hornet, and 22 mag.. Splat... Rock Springs here

Back to the OP, I have a 22-250, but it is a DST Mauser 98 that was built in 1947 or 48 by Vickery. It has a 1:14" twist which is very limited as far as bullet weights. I killed a pleasant hour the other afternoon running different weight Berger bullets on their site, out to 750 yards. The 75gr Match VLD Target seems to have the best MV/trajectory performance balance. Berger suggests a 1:8" twist, which will shoot the lighter bullets accurately as well.

When the old Mauser stops shooting sub-moa a Bartlein 1:8.5 to 1:7.5 gain twist barrel will replace it.

I think I'm down to the Bartlein or another Shilen. Talking to dealers. Any on here too support??
Give James at Northland shooter supply a call. They do a great job ordering and taking care of getting you setup. Shilen may want a few dummy rounds for chambering. They did for my 8 twist shilen match grade select barrel. I typically have my barrels chambered but I gave them a shot at the whole project. Very happy with it.

My first factory competitive rifle was a 22-250. After getting frustrated with any wind blowing up my 500 yard groups I took a break, and got back into it with a 6br. I'm not sure there's a better all around cartridge. Great barrel life. Great brass. Great bullet selection. If you're buying a barrel and having it chambered anyways. I'm not sure why the 6br with a good heavy varmint barrel wouldn't be the perfect prairie gun. Just a little thinking outside the box.

Broughton is topnotch. I own a couple and they do outshoot most of my others. If price means nothing, do not hesitate to go with another option. The shilen option is definitely more economical and still out shoots me.

I had a buddy that just got a .223 built on a 700 action with a #4 6 grove 9 twist Benchmark barrel. This thing shoots damn near every load under 1/2" and alot below 1/4". If he does his job. Or we always say, "If the nut behind the bolt does his job."
