New barrel on 6PPC run in with moly

I just got a new barrel on my 6PPC and intend to use moly coated berger column projectiles. Is barrell run in the same as with naked projectiles or different?

You need to break the barrel in with naked bullets. Then clean it thoroughly...Then coat with moly cream and enjoy....

I use danzac coated bullets during break in and have had no ill results. I've come to believe that it may actually be beneficial, if anything, to the break in process. It reduces fouling. Heat is what breaks the barrel in. Coatings have little to no affect on temps.
I often use the analogy, when discussing what occurs during break in, to running a torch over the end of a bandsaw cut piece of steel. That burr left by the blade will glow red almost instantly. Polish (or burn) that burr off and no more glow. I hope that helps.

I've been using Moly coated Bullets for over 20 years. I really like it a lot. I feel like I understand it, what it does and does not do. I feel like I know how to clean and when to clean and what to expect after certain types of cleaning. Over the years I have had many new barrels to break in. About 10 years ago, I decided to just break in the barrels with Moly coated bullets. The results that followed did not suit me at all. The barrels never shot as well as previous barrels that had been broken in with naked bullets. Now, it is entirely possible that I happen to just get a bad barrel ! ? ! ? I don't know, but I was very disappointed with the results of that experience so I have used naked bullets to break in barrels since then and haven't had another "bad" barrel. I usually shoot about 50 rounds of naked bullets during the breakin process. I shoot one shot and clean thoroughly for 10 shots. Then 3 shots and clean thoroughly for a total of 15 more shots. Then, 5 shots and clean for the remaining amount. When I get home, I will spend a lot of time cleaning the barrel down to clean metal. Then I will coat the barrel with a thick Moly oil that Midway use to sell but is no longer available from them. I still have a little left. Use your good judgement and let us know how it works out.
