As much as I like the idea of no lead in my meat barnes bullets are to over priced. I used to shoot the TSX but but at 1/2 the bullets for almost $30 I dont see any real reason to use them. Last I looked the tipped ones were 20 bullets for $30, no way. All these bulletsd are meant to expand the same way, minimal expansion with deep penetration. I decided to just stick with bergers as they have a higher BC and deep penetration, I dont see the barnes doing anything that any other deer bullet wont do. I do like the petal design aslo but 1/2 the bullets for almost double the price gets old real fast espically when you run out and need another $120 in bullets, thats only 200 bullets.

They are great bullets. I just don't use them up on the range. Bullets are one of your most important items and relative to my other shooting expenses it ain't bad.

Now that is true we stay in Africa our money is 1U$ to 7N$.So N$7x U$120 N$840 that is expensive. We dream to shoot bullets like that. We can not us it,it is just to expensive for us.

Thanks for replay.

Ian - I've used the Barnes TSX once, and it worked fine. But all the other bullets I've used over a lifetime of hunting worked fine too. I am partial to the Nosler Partition anytime penetration is an issue, as when hunting wild boar, big bull elk, or bear. A conventional bullet, like the Sierra, will work, but I find some degree of comfort using the partition, with it's great reputation for penetration.

What ranges? Wow... That really depends on what is being hunted, and where... My teenage son and I shot deer at 15 yards, and out beyond 300 yards... It all depends. Terrain, vegetation, etc... Beats me. Some guys are making a specialty of shooting game at some pretty impressive distances.

Regards, Guy

I now only use my Nosler Partitions at the range!!!
My son used 30-06, 180 gr Nosler Partitions on an elk/moose hunt in Albert.
A bull moose, estimated at 3 years old) shot with this round at 60 yards, hit in the forward lower lungs area from broadside shrugged and took off through a swamp, never to be seen by us again. On the same hunt, our guide called in a nice 6X6 elk that stopped in front of us about 20 yards out. My son hit it lower center chest.,Guide saw the hit and called it a picture perfect shot, and the elk dropped flat on his belly. At the shot, the horses bolted and my son took his eyes off the elk. Unfortunately, after 4 hours of searching that afternoon and all the next day, we never found the elk.
My other son, shot a colorado 4 year old bull elk at 70 yards. It was hit in the center of lungs, bullet went clear through). The elk didn't even flinch, but did turn and came straight in at us. Second shot was recovered embedded in the heart. It had no remaining front end. The recovered bullet remnant was just a 30 cal rifled slug.

From my perspective, I believe that Nosler Partitions tend to have too soft a front, leading to disintigration of the front when it hits at high velocity correlated to shorter range hits. Can't complain about the fact that the back end can be trusted to continue pushing a caliber size hole till it stops or goes through.

On the same hunt in Colorado, I used the old design Barnes Xs and recovered both shots from my 8 year old Colorado bull elk.,Used a 375 H&H). Both were perfectly pettaled out and recovered from under the skin on the far side when we were skinning it out. Both had retained 97% of their weight.

Our outfitter said he has seen Noslers perform as I described many times and prefers clients to use anything else if shots will be at less than 200 yards.

Must have had a bad batch, I have shot nosler partitions & the old solid base for 27 years. Many of those years in Alaska. As a long time,19 years) as a licensed guide/pilot. I have taken or been involved with the harvest of more big game, than most except for a few of the africa guys. Never had a problem, lately been real Impressed with the Accubond. A cross between the ballistic tip & partition. I watched a friend shoot a 71 inch moose at 240 yards. The bullet hit behind the shoulder angled to the far shoulder & complete penetration. This was a 260 gr out of a 375 H&H at 2680 fps.I have shot .30 cal 150 & 165 grain, .375 260 & 300 grain wih nothing but excellent results!
