New atf wait time

So i had heard that form 4 wait times were going very fast so i decided to bite the bullet and apply for another suppressor. I finally got approved for my first one beginning of last year. It took 9 months. I went into the ffl friday and did the paperwork efiled. They were seeing very fast turn around times and even faster if you already had one. I got the approval today!!! Thats pretty fast i think only 3 business days. I have never been keen on the fee, but feels a little better with a much faster turn around time.

I have a few suppressors most of which took 6-9 months to process. Stopped in at my suppressor shop two weeks ago and they told me individual applications were going through in as little as two days, some took two weeks. I bought three more and was approved in 4 working days. They also noted that trust applications weren’t processing nearly as fast, I don’t know if that’s true, just repeating what I was told.

Unfortunately we’re not one of those countries that sell suppressors on the shelf like much of the world does. I remember hunting in South Africa 5-6 years ago and visiting a suppressor shop with my outfitter. He bought 2 on the spot and thought it was silly to have to wait like we do which really surprised me. That was my first time using one and I was hooked. Rimfire subsonic surpressed is too much fun, same with mild 45-70 loads. Fun!

One of the big advantages if you haven’t used one is recoil reduction, my 18 year old niece was using a rifle I have this past year with a thunderbeast suppressor, Tikka 6.5PRC. Shes a pint weight and never complained about recoil, shooting in any position including prone and the loads weren’t wimpy.

I asked the guys at the shop when I bought a rifle in december and they told me as little as 6 days. Im on the fence. I been prairie dogging with my friends who have cans. Yeah, its a lot better but wasn't too many shots of their 204 till I put ears back on.

I use them for predator hunting where almost always 1 shot on a stand. Got to use it on a javelina hunt last month. Same thing, just needed 1 shot. If i was going to be on a dog town id want some protection

Little off topic here, wonder if I could get some opinions. I have a M70 308 with a 22 inch M40 profile Bartlein on it. My brother recently found a 175 SMK load that it absolutely drills with. I have a Banish 30 on the way (some time in the future) and was going to have Silencer Central cut the barrel back to 20 inchs and thread it. Question: Does a guy mess with a rifle when it’s shooting so well? Starting over for load development? This will be the first suppressor for me, never messed with one before.

If you leave the barrel length the same it shouldn’t change the load. If you shorten the barrel it will most likely need the load adjusted a little. Usually a little more powder unless you are at the top already. If that is the case you will need to back it down to a lower node. I would expect it to shoot the same load with or without the suppressor. If not you have a problem.
