new and i need some help on relading .308

Honda, we were all at a starting point at one time. We all asked questions. When I get home, I will have to look, but I think it's NOSSLER's reloading manual that gives the best descriptions on technical terms and of course reloading.

Off the lands . . . when you bullet touchs the lands (rifling) it's zero, backing off is just what it means, backing the bullet off the rifleing or lands! The closer to the lands, the higher the pressure when shooting. But it makes a difference in your groups.

You have a computer, go to YOU TUBE and look up reloading and you will find a ton of video's on reloading. I learned a lot from the videos, if you don't understand something, then ask us a question.

Good luck, Dennis

Hi I am using the 30 cal Dyer HBC-BJD 155grain Palma projectiles, Lapua brass. I tried the felt pen seating depth set up in my Sako TRG 22 1:11 twist to just missing the lands, resulting grouping all touching almost one hole at 100 yards. Got me a Hornady seating depth gauge set up I have 0,063" jump !!! I thought I was just missing. Tried closer as per all the advice still shoots best with the big jump !!!. My powder is 47.5 grains ADI AR2208 I think this is Varget you best check this out , Federal 210 primers. Velocity 26" barrel high 2898 fps low 2861 fps average 2885 fps, ES 37, ED 10. No pressure signs or bolt lift or brass issues. 300 yards 60 x60 500 yards 60x 60 900 yards 59x60 first try seams to work for me. Standard Sako TRG 22, Schmidt and Bender PMII 5-25x56, Sinclair F/Class bipod with their rail adaptor and rear bag.
Be careful work loads up safely per the manuals this works ok for me in New Zealand maybe not you. Have fun zero at 100 yards 300 4.00 moa 500 8.50 moa 600 13.5 moa 800 20.5 moa 900 25 moa 1000 30 moa. These are actual range tested data.

what kind of groupings are you getting at like 600,800,1000 yards?

alright i got the sinclair chamber gauge
my chamber lenght is 2.047
Then i did the "cheaper way" of measuring the bullet off the lands. I seated a bullet in a case way above what the book says and ran it in in small incurments until my bolt closed easly the number i ended up with was 2.950 so then i should subtract .020 which would leave me with 2.930 so i get .020 off the lands correct?? ??? which from what i read is a good starting point to work around once i determine my powder charge.
If any of the info. doesnt seem right or im doing it the wrong way please let me know I apprepicate any info u guys throw at me.
thanks
