New 7MM ?????

I've been looking at cartridges in 7mm and like the 7 mm Rem mag., but do not like the belted magnum. Some of the short mags dont crack me up. My question is: is anyone working or thought of taking the 7 RUM and shorting the case to the same or greater powder capacity of 7 mm Rem. thus getting rid of the belt with the preformance of the STW. Thank You for your time and enjoy reading your comments.

Your search is over. The 280Ackley will all but duplicate the perfomance of the 7mmRemMag, while burning considerably less powder.

Dakota Arms has done just what you speak of, and you can buy brass for it too. Ya got me thinkin....

What's the problem with the belted magnum? I have a 7mm Rem. and I love it. 4th loading on neck sizing only and the dreaded "bulge" above the belt has not happened. Maybe does not look as good as a non-belted cartridge, but who cares.

The 7mm SAUM is just a new double ackley improved is all, and if Bartlein sends the 7mm barrel before summer is over I'll have a new 7mm SAUM Ackley Improved to play with.. It will do anything that pesky old belted 7mm Rem Mag will do with less powder and more efficiency, and better accuracy.......

I believe many people are having luck with the 7/300 WSM. That is necking down 300 WSM to 7mm instead of straight 7 wsm because people have stated that the 300 wsm has a longer neck.

The bc of the 7's are impressive and you do need case capacity to push the 180 class high bc bullets to 3,000 fps.

A straight 7 WSM is also good, but like I said many are necking down 300 WSM for the longer neck.

.280 AI is nice cartridage as well. Neck down 30-06 springfield Lapua brass and then turn and FF it to your chamber.

A straight .284 with the 162 A-max's will give you excellent bore wear and performance on par with a 6.5 x.284 with longer bore life.

RHINOUT!

The folks at Patriot Arms have a 7mm/300 WSM that is a hammer. Shooting 180gr Bergers right out of the box, the gun recently shot a 1.1" group and a .90" group, back to back, five shots per group), at 731 yards. Why 731 yards you ask--well that's as far as they could go at their local range. The brass is Norma 300WSM necked down to 7mm and neck-turned.

Im using the 7 Rem Mag & the 280 Ackley, they are in two completly oposite style of guns & like them both. The 280 AI is in a light weight hunting rig & the 7 Remmy is a Factory Sendero that is unbaliviably accurate.

The 280 is 80FPS slower in the shorter barrel with the same bullet.

Heres what I like about the 280 AI. Really good Norma Brass, dont drop this stuff in the feild & leave it)
7MM Rem peformance out of a plain ole Long action .473 bolt face.

I have my own Tight chamber reamer.

Im also running Norma Brass in the 7mm Remmy.

I would consider it if the others dont get you all excited & you want something straight forward. But if you want to do something a little difrent then the plain ole 280AI then its probobly not what you want. Simplicity & performance=280AI

Good Luck
