new 700 sps varmint

I bought a new Rem 700 SPS varmint in .243 that I have not shot yet. I have heard some things that I should do before I shoot it to make it the most accurate rifle it can be. I have heard shooting special bullets, lapping?, and a few other things. What would you recommend I do so I can have a production rifle that shoots great. I understand the rifle will probably shoot better than I and I can use all the practice I can get. Those are given. Just wondering how to accurize the new rifle. Thanks for the expert advice.

Depends on how much work you want to do...

You can evenly tighten the stock screws by hand), check around the bolt handle,in the stock groove) with a piece of paper to make sure it is not touching,binds bolt), check and or float the barrel, get someone to tune the trigger,bed the action...Take a 1-2 coils off the the ejector spring,do not cut to much-try one or two first you might have to stretch it to lengthen it). There are articles on-line to tune a remington trigger-just do not try to get a light match trigger from a stock trigger assembly/springs...usually can turn them down to around 2 1/2 pounds which make nice all around triggers.

These are just a few- BUT do not attempt anything on your own unless you have experience in doing so because any failure is done at your own risk.

Inspect the crown. Factory Remingtons are notorious for needing some polishing. I took some pictures of the worse one I ever encountered and took another after polishing was complete.
