New 6BRA Coming Together

This project started back in early 2020 when I struck up a conversation on the forum with Mr Jimmy Tate down in Virginia and ended up ordering one of his hand made stocks in African mahogany. It didn’t take him long to deliver a beautiful stock, but we were soon hit with the pandemic which put my plans for a build on the back burner. my wife and I ended up buying a new home and moving in August of 2020 which pushed all of my shooting and reloading related projects off even farther.

A few weeks ago I decided to get this project moving again. I made some calls and couldn’t locate a custom action with the Remington footprint that I needed in stock, so I placed a WTB thread here on the forum and landed a SS Remington 40X with a PTG coned bolt and Sako extractor that’s been worked over by Mike Bryant in Texas. A few days later I also scored a 1:8 Bartlein HV barrel from here on the forum and had it drop shipped straight to Lee Gardener. Tonight I installed the Shilen competition trigger and mocked it up with a similar contour barrel that I had on the shelf just for some pics. Tomorrow I’ll be shipping the action to Illinois so that Lee can chamber and install the barrel.

That looks very nice and will be an excellent shooter.Have you found brass and dies yet?If so,where from?I've thought about a 6BRA from time to time myself.

Thanks! I’ll send some fired cases to Harrel’s and get one of their bushing dies for sizing. I already have a 1:12 twist 6BRA, so I will probably start out using the same Forster BR seater die, altogether I did think about ordering a Wilson die blank and having it bored with the same reamer. The brass and bullets was actually why I went this route. I already have plenty of both, so I wont have to play the searching for components game for a long time.

Super nice looking rig you have there! I’m sure it will shoot great. If you can get on the waiting list for some vapor trails or Roy Hunter bullets they are worth the wait. I have 2 6BRA’s and have found it to be an extremely easy cartridge to get to shoot well. I will never go BRA-less again in my life!

That’s a beautiful rifle! Great job!

Thank you!

I already have the rifle back from Lee with the barrel installed. Tonight I will load my 3 test loads that will serve as barrel break in and then make the trip down to Harrel’s once they’ve been fired 3 times so they can pick out my new die.

While I’m waiting on my die from Harrel’s I’ll start the process of getting the action pillar bedded into the stock. If anyone with some skills within a few hour drive of Central Ohio wants to help with that part, I would be forever grateful....lol
