jkohler,

Good looking gun. Give the 87 gr Vld Berger a try. They shoot great in my 10 tw 6BR.

Mark -- is this something new??

Berger has a 95gr VLD and 88gr FB low drag bullet in 6mm on Berger website. I've never heard of 87gr VLD....

The 87 VLD is a Berger hunting bullet. There are more than a few folks who think Berger hunting bullets are more accurate than their target bullets.

jkohler,
Welcome to the forum :) Beautiful rifle, Preacher did a great job on the stock. Have you shot it yet? how does it compare to the brx or dasher? I just love those little improved 6br's I have read a little about the 6br-dx but have never seen one. Who built the reamer? Let us know all about your hot looking little rifle. I just built two 6brx's and love them.

Thanks guys for the nice coments on the rifle
Bozo699 I have only shot one round out of it so far just to see if it would form all right. It didn't form the brass that well and I had it jamed really hard have to try somthing different next time. as far as comparing to the brx and dasher it should be right in line with both of them. we will find out soon! The reamer is a Pt&G reamer I had it made right before the brass changed so I got a .272. Good thing I had 12 boxes of old cardbord brass ;D I also built two of 6br-dx's one for the wife to shoot her's is at Joel russo's for her stock to be made.
Her's is on a Defiance action we are going to try out it seem's to be a very nice action so far.

jkohler,
I have learned a few things from fdshuster and others and a few things on my own about fireforming. I have been jamming .030+ and using flat base bullets not boat tails. If it didn't form well you probably don't have enough powder in it, for my brx it was suggested 29.5 grains, the shoulders were rounded badly I bumped it up to 30.5 grains and it worked much better. 28.25" 1:8 barrel and a 105 grain bullet I am getting 2780 fps I think, hope this helps and good luck with your new rifle ;)

Bozo699,
I was using 31.3 gr vv135 and a berger 80gr flat base bullet. I allso used a .265 bushing on the brass and had .025 jam on the bullet. the round would not even chamber back in the rifle after firing it. I had to bump the shoulder back .003 to get the bolt to close agin. I am having a special size expander mandrel made to try the false shoulder and see if that helps. The mandrel is going to be .250 so it won't work the brass so much.

jkohler,
I am sorry I must have been really tired, I forgot to mention brand of powder ??? Varget, I have also had good luck with 30.0 grains of IMR-4895. Really the only problem I have had with the Savage is regulating powder so there is enough to fully form the shoulder but not pierce the primers, the powder charges mentioned with 100 -105 grain bullets worked fine. I did use a 6.5 mandrel and a .257 mandrels and didn't like that method as well but your .250 mandrel sound like a good idea. I found closing the bolt slowly seemed to help. If I was shooting 600 yards or less I wouldn't change the near perfect little 6br but I shoot mostly 1000 yards so the added 150+ fps really helps I think and makes the frustrating fireforming worth it. I hope some of this helps and any info you you find useful please pass it on, as this is a ongoing learning process for me as well. you might pm fdshuster and or tclaunch, also BlueEyedBear they have given me valuable info on the subject and they are super nice down to earth guy's, good luck ;)
Wayne.
