New 6br barrel options

I am looking at picking up a 24" Criterion Varmint contour in 6br for my model 12 target action at the end of this summer. My question is, should I get it threaded for a brake?

The main purpose for this setup will primarily be a bench gun (non-competition), possible colony varmint shooter, possible walking varminter, and will serve as a truck gun occasionally during the months of January and February. This will be my first venture into the 6br world so any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated, even if it is not barrel threaded related.

Thanks!

A 24" varmint contour barrel doesn't sound much like a "truck gun" as they're commonly referred to as, in my opinion. Usually, they're on the smaller and lighter side for additional maneuverability and concealment in your vehicle.

Anyway, good luck on the build.

No. They don't kick and won't deafen you for life if you take a quick shot and forget hearing protection.

I say no brake. Recoil is way mild. Brakes are WAY LOUD! Mike

I have one. 22” heavy barrel. It has a blended Vais brake. If I had to do it again, I’d do the same thing - I can see holes open on the target. I kinda like that.

Regardless how you go, good luck with it. Mine doesn’t lie. It truly shoots exactly where you aim it. I need to get better!

As soon as you said a varmint, then yes to a break, you want to see your EXACT POINT OF IMPACT on a colony varmint to give a better launch on the guy next door.

I can tell you that if you ever install a tuner on your rifle, you are done for. You will want a tuner for every rifle you own for the rest of your life, and wonder why the light had not come on sooner.

You will just have to see the results to believe!!!

I plan on using the HS Precision stock the gun originally came with. I believe it is the PST114.
I believe those came with a hefty 26 inch barrel,
My BVSS was much the same but with a Varmint contour.820 at the muzzle, it wasn’t too bad for walking if I chose to.
