New 6BR, 1-7” twist - shooting heavies.

Ok so with "life" at play the project got held up and morphed a little.

Took delivery yesterday, ended up with a heavy barrel profile after all finished at 21.5" in 6BR, 1-7' twist. It's a varminter / fun gun. It's got a pretty short throat.

A lot of work sorting the rifle yet to do but rudimentary workup loads were (and I thought I'd just share for the sake of getting the data out there)....

Lap Brass
105g Hdy BTHP
29.0g H4895 (AR2206H)
Rem 7.5 Primer
2.305"oal
Velocity 2755fps

Also ran the above load identical except 28.7g H4895 and speed was 2725fps.

Accuracy over the tailgate of the truck at 100y is hovering at 0.6moa which for me and my setup / purposes is very very good!

Anyway thats what I have for now. More as it comes to hand.

I would warn against the BRX or Dasher unless you have done a lot of fire forming and don't mind it. Really the 100-200fps is not worth it. The 6BR is scary accurate. Recoil on the 6BR will be a little more mild too which will make it more fun to shoot.
Grimstod I guess you have never had a 6BRX. Seat a bullet long in a 6BR case and fire it. Pretty simple, huh.I have never had a Dashed but I have heard Dasherd guys complain about making cases for them.Bobnob if you want to go BRX pm me. I have been shooting them for over 10 years and about 25 barrels, I can give you the real information, Very accurate and not difficult to tune if you know what your doing.

Sounds like a fun project. I built something similar 7-8 years ago on a Sako 75, straight 6BR with a #3 twenty inches long, I’ve used It for varmint hunting, the range is longer than I anticipated actually. This rifle feeds that little BR flawlessly, at the time I built it there wasn’t a lot of options for good feeding. Some of the guys I hunt with liked it enough that two of them built pretty much the same thing. I have a 25 inch Dasher at home but usually when I’m calling I enjoy the shorter lighter barrel and take the 6BR, sometimes I take the dasher. You’ll enjoy that rifle!

Actually the 6BRX is my most used competition gun. When I did my fire forming I did a three step fire form process. Call me over meticulous. lol. Neck turned first, then cream of wheat fire formed, then fire formed with a light 56gr bullet then finally fired with a 95gr.

Grimstod, glad your also using the brx, great under appreciated cartridge. OP made no mention that he would need to turn necks. I feel he is ahead of the game if he does. I believe it is easier to control neck tension with thinner necks. I shoot a pair of brxs and a ppc, all have .262 necks. Not sure why you fire form as you do, I turn the necks within .1 of the shoulder creating a false shoulder, seat a bullet a bit long, 1 shot and done. Important to keep your chamber clean and dry, I clean it every 5 shots. Also, keep your cartridges clean, oil free, and dry. You want to keep case necks as long as possible. I use fire form barrel for this, no wasted rounds down a new barrel. I just did 100, lost 1 case, split at shoulder. The other 99 all fell between 1.5490 1.5495.

To make 6BRA or Dasher from 6BR brass. 20 grains of Bullseye, 1/8 piece of TP, and a soft primer. After 200 rounds of this the Hawkeye showed just a light gray haze that quickly cleaned out. Fully formed shoulders too.

Chambering is a no-neck-turning option which suits me.

First toe in the water with cartridges in the BR family so I kept it simple.
