New 6 PPC--Bullet Choices

I have a new 6 PPC coming and am wondering about optimal bullet choices. It has a Krieger 13.5"-twist barrel and a Dakota Varminter action (modified Nesika Bay, I think). It's not a BR rifle, and I plan to shoot lightweight bullets in it.

I've gone to the JBM stability calculator to see what weight 6 mm. bullets will stabilize in the 13.5 twist barrel and, according to that calculator, most of the 68-70 grain bullets that I'd hoped to be able to use will be under-stabilized. These bullets run .80"-.83" in length, and with the velocity set at 3000 fps, I'm getting stability values below the 1.30 recommended with the calculator. So, I'm looking for advice here. With the results I'm getting from the online stability calculator, will I in fact experience under-stabilization with these bullets? What other bullets would you suggest? I have some 68-gr. Barts and Watsons on hand.

Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

Depends some on powder, I run Barts Avenger 68 gn bt and Hillbilly 68 gn fb bullets and running 3300 plus fps with lt32, I've won a few local matches and placed 16th in the UBR Nats this year so I think the bullets stabilize pretty good! YMMV I also run some 80 gn Hillbilly bullets with 8208xbr that shoot well.

The 68s will shoot great in your barrel.

Keep a eye open , you can buy 65 - 68s on this site when they come up - today, instead of waiting a month or so because of backorders. .

I would try the bullets that you have first. They will shoot fine and lights out if your barrel likes them. I would stay away from anything over 68gr. Also, I tried some Berger 68gr. And had trouble stabilizing them. I think they were made in longer jackets. On the other hand, my 13.5 twist shot 70gr. Sierra’s fine.

When you are on the edge, what works is barrel specific.
