New 6 Dasher F Class rifle on line!

I just finished a new 6 Dasher rifle build, this time on a BAT model B action:

I went to the range today to fine tune the RL-15 loads, and came away with a big grin. ;D You can see the complete writeup on my site here, but here are some pictures of the (5 shot) groups @ 200 yards (Yes, 200!):

These were 105 Berger VLDs, running 3075 FPS. SDs were about 3, with ES about 8. Can't wait to get to the next F-Class match!

Cheers,

Chris

AWESOME Chris!! Don't ya just love those DASHERS?!!!!! :)

I was going to build another but decided instead to build a 6mm SUPER LR designed by Robert Whitley. Had to try something different.

Barry

Barry,

Are you going to run 115 gr bullets thru they Super?

Keep us posted on how that turns out. I have a mild interest in that cartridge and would like to hear your results.

Bob

I am going to start with BIB 108s. I have some that I could not get to work in my DASHER so I will try them first.

I have all the parts for the gun, just waiting on the reamer. Supposed to ship on 05/11. John King will be doing the smithing for me and I do not know his schedule yet.

I will post results when I get it to the bench.

I dont know this from experience but i have been told by some experienced long range shooters that the 108bib need a very long free bore in the brx and dasher chamberings. something like .200??? maybe mr Robinnet could chime in? They work wonderfully in my 6br with a 105 free bore. I love them!! Lee

Hi Chris, looks like you've built up quite an impressive long range arsenal. I haven't had the chance to meet you yet, but are you going to make it to the WA State Champs this spring?

I can do the same thing with a 6mmBR in a factory Savage with no wind. I think you overpaid for all that trick stuff.

Why would you get on someone's post and say that? Are you some kind of troll? We don't care!

Beautiful rifle. I have been following your very informative techshooter web site for sometime. I noticed the stand for the Farley Coax rest. Did you make that? I really like it . My Farley is a center post but I think the same concept would work. Nice work and thanks for sharing your knowledge. George

Great Shooting Chris. Four out of five groups in the Ones... I'll say you have a shooter. And don't worry about Mr. Shot410 ... He may not have realized the targets were at TWO Hundred yards.

We've also tested two Savage factory 6BRs. Even on their second barrels (provided by factory to fix flawed chambers), they couldn't come close to a 5-target agg like that.

I am planning to be at the 300 yard match up at Plantation next weekend. Is that the one you are referring to?

Cheers,

Chris

George:
The rest is a Farley Coaxial II. It came with that base, just as shown in the picture. I wonder if they wouldn't sell you a base and post for your rest top? It is heavy, and doesn't move much once you get it in position.

Cheers,

Chris, sorry I meant the long range Palma championship in late April or early May down at Rattlesnake. I will hopefully get to go, for me it is usually a humbling experience to shoot the 1000 yard range at Rattlesnake, but those guys you see shooting there didn't get as good as they are by shooting the easier ranges all the time. I usually learn something every time I get the opportunity to shoot there. And as always I try not to let it get to me when the F/TR shooters outscore me at Rattlesnake, like that ever happens ::)

Congrats on the new Dasher it looks (and shoots) great.

Maybe. I was planning on going to the Burden Memorial match the next weekend down at Douglas Ridge, so the 'Snake may not be possible. I have too much to do before my annual PDog trip to Wyoming in early June.

Cheers,

I see that you have a .272 neck, I am just starting load developement with my BAT F-class rifle chambered for a 6 Dasher, also with a 272 neck. What did you do for case prep? You have a very nice rifle, it looks like a real shooter. Your first Dasher project helped convice me to go for a dasher on my F-class rifle (mine is a switch barrel also a .284 for long range). I do have my brass fire formed, I used the false shoulder meathod which has worked very well.
Best regards,
Ben

Ben:

I don't do much except use a BR size flash hole reamer out of the box, and a carbide primer pocket uniformer every time I reload. Then, a Redding Type S bushing neck die with the expander ball removed, with a 0.268" (TiN type) bushing, until the brass gets a bit work hardened, about 4 or 6 reloads, then I use a 0.267". Necks run about 0.2675" out of the 0.268" bushing, and 0.2695" with a 105 Berger seated in them. After the 0.267" a couple times, I anneal the necks. I use a Redding body die about every 4th loading or so to keep them chambering smoothly. Oh, case neck chamfer in and out before the fireform as well. Haven't had to trim one back yet. That's all, pretty simple.

Cheers,
