New 6 BRA barrel on Eliseo tube gun

I had Gary @gme swap out a .308 barrel for a new 6mm Bartlein 1:7.5 twist in Remington Varmint profile for my prone rifle. We used a Manson .272 no turn neck and a 0.104” free bore.
I am breaking in the barrel and fireforming using some 107 SMK and Varget that I put together as a safe fireforming load and was able to score 495/25x as the barrel is speeding up after 100 rounds. Not bad for an old blind guy with thrown together load.

Today I thought I would load some Berger 108 BT and do a bullet seating depth test while fireforming. This may be the shortest seating depth test I’ll ever run. I had used 1.840” BTO with 30.2 of Varget in another 6BRA rifle with good results. This new chamber measure 1.030” to touch with my tools so I loaded up 50 at 0.010” jam or 1.840” and took the press to the range to seat them deeper and find the sweet spot.

First four shots went into one hole and number 5 was just off but still one ragged hole. SD was 4.3 and velocity of 2820 fps.

Since I know my groups are too small I shot a ten shot group and it opened up a bit but I am happy with a 0.65 moa 10 shot group from a rickety bench with a Caldwell rest with my stocking cap and gloves for a rear bag.


Thanks Gary ! I think we will have a good stick here. Can’t wait to get the rest of the 300 pieces fireformed and see what it does as a real BRA.

I’m still running my R5 in 6BR that Gary built for me some years ago for my F Open 300-600 gun and I have never been sorry. New barrel of course but still running a Bench Mark 1:8 like the original build.
Up graded the grip with a MDT Vertical Grip ELITE.
Really like the feel and handling.
Have gone back to the 107 Sierra’s as the 103’s that had previously performed so well have gone “off the boil”… I think that the die is worn…
30gr Varget, CCI450’s, 10 jump. “Done restored ma Faith…” when I put 10 in at 300 meters for a 100.8

I don’t see why not although he personally does not do the work, he just makes all the furniture and has his own local gunsmith. I bought a complete rifle from him and picked it up at his shop in Cottonwood Az and that is how I know.
