new 22lr

I'm having shoulder surgery thursday and was wanting a new toy. A toy that doesn't kick! I have cz varmint and was thinking of stepping up a notch. Thinking around 1k. Any suggestions on a varmint or target 22lr. Looking at anschutz and sako. Thanks

Lots of nice stuff in this price category. At 1K, Remington 40X & Anschutz 54 if you shop around, The Cooper TRP-3 if you can find one, might be tough at that price though. For the money the MPR w/ 64 action & HB is a really nice piece. Had one in 17hmr that was very accurate @ 50yds.
Heal fast & Good luck,

If its best accuracy you seek, then look at Anschutz, either the 64 MPR which is mid-range in the world of Anschutz. The "MPR" stands for "Multy Purpose Rifle" which you can use as either a Bench gun or a field shooting rifle. Now it is NOT a light rifle weight wise like a Savage MKII. But the accuracy FOR THE MONEY, is hard to beat. I shoot strictly benchrest anymore and my rifle is out of the box, but has a Harrel Tuner on it which has provided ultimate accuracy (when I do my part) and she has outshot several custom rigs (Sako included) as well as 40X's and even a Match Anschutz 54 Action in local competitions at 50 yds. But do go out and "feel" each rifle before buying so that it's comfortable and the weight is right for you. But do remember, you'll have to do some testing to match ammo to your particular rifle to get the best results.

++ on the 64 MPR & Champions Choice. Bought one several years ago as a "present" to myself and its accuracy is humbling. I'm a f-class shooter and I practice my mirage reading skills by using the Annie at 50/100 yds. Find some ammo that it likes and you'll have a blast. Mine seems to like SK match or standard plus and wolf match extra. The little extra you pay for the ammo really lets these rimfires shine!! Eric in DL

Winny 52's, Remmy 37's and Suhl 150's can often be found in your $$$ range. I have a few of the Suhl rifles and they are sweet, best trigger there is IMO...in my case, accuracy at least on par, if not a tad better than my 37, and 40x.

Definitely good advice!!

Just a thought! A cz 455 with the manners stock, trigger job and a drop in lilja. I wonder how it would be against some of the above mentioned rifles?

From a cost perspective, how much would that set up end up costing you? Now I don't want to end up sounding like I'm a pure Anschutz guy, but proof is in the pudding. And just how serious are you about the accuracy you want? I know that guys who own CZ's think they are the best thing going and Anschutz guys the same as do the 40X and other well known actioned rigs. I've held, shot and competed using several various rifle to include the custom jobs that have run $5000 and up with the top notch components/rigs having the various high dollar actions, Dan Lilja's barrel (top notch in my book), Jewell triggers, Leupold/Nighforce (etc, etc) scopes . If money were no object, I'd darn sure build me a custom rigs with all those nifty parts. BUT for the money, my middle of the road Anschutz 64 MPR (as well as lighter Anschutz rifles) has outshoot all those rifles in competitions, which is NOT TO BRAG OR PUT DOWN THOSE OTHER FINE rifles. But for $1150, I'm very happy I bought my Anschutz and the only other expense was of course glass ($1,000 Leupold Competition 35X) and a Harrel Tuner that costs me overall $165. Now ammo these days is not cheap at all, so you can't forget that expense and my rifle likes the expensive stuff that now runs $17.90 per 50.

Bottom line, I didn't like the "feel of the CZ's" which had zip to do with how well that rig shoots. Even some of the Anschutz rifles didn't make my day in the "feel" column. Even a few of the $5000+ rifle didn't warm me up. But when I held that 64 MPR and knowing I was going to shoot her off the bench, I knew instantly that she was the babe I wanted. So might I suggest you go "feel" that CZ and the barrel would be immaterial to that exercise. So whether you purchase or build a rifle with a Rem 40X, Hall, Turbo, Sako or any other high dollar action, even with a McMillan or other proven high quality stock, make sure that is the one for you. Once you start tearing into a new or old rifle, you are stuck with the investment and if she don;t "feel" good in your hands, you are stuck and may not get the money you put into building her in an effort to sell what didn';t turn out what you thought would. In any case, good luck and have fun whichever way you decide to go.

While the CZ's are a great purchase for the $, I'll have to say the Anschutz will be consistently very accurate. I've owned (2) Anschutz, (4) CZ's and (1) BRNO Stecher and while the Stecher was every bit as accurate as the Anschutz, it was not as consistent. It was about as close to a MPR as your going to find in weight and feel and certainly a range magnet. I used Wolf MT in all for comparison.

I have an annie with the same action, only in a pistol. Federal gold medal hi velocity and Eley club orange box shoot the best. Good luck with your new rifle. I bet it'll be a pleasure to shoot. Hog.

Hey Mike: Ordered a lilja hv hunting contour with 1 x 9 twist that I'm having Mike Hartman thread onto a 40x clone for quiet varmint duty on the local golf course this summer. Planning on shooting the aguila 60 gr pills through my 22L1 tbac. Should be extremely quiet and accurate. How's the shoulder been healing? Scott
