New 222 rem. build done

Just finished my 222 rem build. Its the first rifle I ever bought. Just a standard rem. 722 sporter in 222 rem. I bought it used in 84 when I was 14. I figured until now I had shot around 10k thru it and it showed, 200 yds and you were lucky to keep 10 shots in a softball group. I found the new McGowen bbl. on there website at a good price. My living is making stocks so I made this stock to suit my purpose of prairie dog hunting and groundhog hunting and maybe a short range groundhog match. Rick at boyzhid.com dipped it in carbon fiber for me and it turned out awesome. Have not had a chance to shoot it yet and still want to put a larger bolt knob on it. Other than that I believe it's complete.

I am not a "thumbhole" guy, however, that paint job is awesome!! If it shoots as good as it looks, you may have a record setter on your hands!!

Should we assume the stock is wood or composite? It looks real nice, how much clearance do you have under the barrel? It looks alittle tight towards the front or is it a pressure point.

Its a walnut laminate stock that I made up of left over pieces. There's enough clearance for 2 sheets of printer paper. Its not as close as it looks in the pics.

I admit to being a two matchbook covers float sort of guy, unless it is a high dollar piece of checkered art in walnut and rust bluing, that you would be afraid to take very far from the gun safe. How does it shoot?

I personally think your rifle is a great combination of old and new. I just had a Hart action fitted with a new Shilen HV barrel in 222 and couldn't be happier. Your gun is definitely going to be an attention getter no matter where you go.

You are to be commended on your choice of Cartridge and your stock work is nicely done.

The "Duce" is know for small groups

Good Luck

Nice!!!.. i had a shilen barrel put on a 788 a couple years ago.. it was also my first center fire rifle.. my smith did the work.. bedded it in a new factory original stock.. turned out great and is a tack driver.. growing up with that little rifle i killed more stuff with it than you could haul in a semi.. fond memories every time i shoot it.. enjoy your old new triple deuce..i sure do mine
