New 20 TAC built

Looks great! Have you had a chance to shoot it yet? Where in WV are you? I lived in PKB for almost 30 years.

Im from Virginia. SouthWest VA. I have shot it a few times and its shooting good with what few loads i have tested. Adam the 22 Dasher is Awesome but I've always had a 20 caliber bug since my first 20 Vartarg and the 20 TAC is a Proven 500 yard Groundhog killer. The Dasher is a Groundhog Grenade. Never saw Groundhogs tore up so bad!!

Im a die hard 20 cal guy as well. To hell with the low BC 22 cals! Lol.

Built my first 20 TAC last year. Went with the AR15 format to keep my head down and stay on the trigger more. Custom X-Caliber bull barrel 3 groove 1 in 11" twist finished at 20" and topped with a Harrels Tactical brake.

Tested a few loads this fall before big game hunting season. I've already found 2 loads that will put 5 shots well under 1/2" at 100 yards. First load ended up being 25.7gr of 8208XBR, second sub 1/2 MOA load was 26.2gr of IMR 4895. Will try to tune those two loads to get a little more out of them and might test some other powders in the spring when it warms up a bit. Off to a really good start so far and it looks very promising.

Well the 22 Dasher with a 55 Nosler at 4045 FPS is wicked and BC of .267

The 53 Vmax Adam shoots is .290 BC and at 4000 plus FPS is a Groundhogs Nightmare. I still like the 22s as well as the 20s

Yeah that's not bad. I push the 39gr Sierra BlitzKing over 4000 fps from a 26" barrel in my 204 Ruger, G1 BC of .289

Some guys have built tight twist 20 BR's and launch the 55gr berger at very fast speeds, G1 BC of .354

Many people with a lot of experience using the 20 TAC claim that it is capable of speeds that equal the larger 204 Ruger, but I have not personally tested the cartridge enough to determine if those claims are true. Of course I may not be able to determine it anyhow because my 20 TAC only has a 20" barrel whereas my 204 Ruger sports a 26" barrel.

What was bullet choice and wt. as well as primer choice and case brand ?

I am shooting the 34gr Midsouth Varmint Nightmare HP bullets. Only cost $45 per 500 and they are very accurate. Cases are just once fired '09 Lake City 223 brass I picked up on gunbroker for about $45 per 1000. Swaged the pockets, ran them in my FL sizer once, trimmed to length, loaded, and shot them. They shoot with the same accuracy before and after fire-forming the shoulder so I just load and shoot.

Primers are Federal 205s

Not trying to steal the thunder on your great new rifle or anything and I apologize if I came off that way. My intentions were to share any of my knowledge that I have obtained about the 20 TAC so far. I know there are others here with 20 TAC bolt rifles that are far more accurate than my AR15 and they surely have more experience with the round. Just wanted to share my .02

As far as the 22 dasher, it's great round, but can't hang with the big 20's on tajectory. Take that same 22 Dasher case and neck it down to 20 cal, shoot the 55gr Bergers and it will shoot even flatter.

This barrel was most likely a Barrel made when Mike Rock was still there. I have shot 35 bergers and 39 Sierra blitzkings in it so far with CCI 450 primers all groups under 3/8 and most in the 3/16 to 5/16 range. I im using Lapua 20 TAC brass. I have always seen a need for a good 20 TAC in my neck of the woods!
