NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE

Bought some 1F LC 556 brass the other day and finally got around to sort by date. Came across these three cases with markings like I have never seen. It looks like they were trying to crimp the primer pocket somehow. IMG_0253 (002).jpg

For the longest time, Lake City used a crimp that circled the entire primer, which is still commonly used by other manufacturers. Sometime around 2011-2012, LC shifted to staking the primer with the 4 quadrant hash marks/indents.

Swage and use as normal.

This could be had in some retail ammo for a period of time. I actually loved this brass because the stake crimps really made the primer pockets tighter for hot loads. I wish all my LC brass was this style.

Yep the new way the military is staking brass these days ...and I don’t like it compared to the "round" staking job. But I have them and run them through the Dillon 600 swaging tool...so their no problem. LC brass is sometimes available new unfired with no crimp, and cheap, I got a bunch about 5 yrs ago. Use LC brass in 5.56, 300 blkout, 300 ham'r, & 222 in the old days, by the thousands...ditto for the 308, but the 308s also get Lapua brass, not so with the 223 types. Testing out some 4064 with LC 308 today...

Easy to remove. Go to Lowes and buy a 5/8 inch countersink. Chuck it up in your hand drill and about the count of 1 2 and its gone.

On and Off, over the years, some have staked primers into the case, like this. Ream and prep your case as you would a circular crimp and use it. Most this type of staked primer marks have been on various military ammo, but some have used it on commercial.
