I just received my setback 284, now in the form of a 284 Shehane and 1.5 inches shorter (32 to 30.5 barrel)and with a tuner installed. When I received it, I was anxious to put some rounds thru it asap so I had some rounds leftover from a previous match when I was shooting the rifle as a 284. My load was 50.5 of H4350 with 180 hybrids -.015 from the lands. My rounds were to long for my new chambering, so I pushed the 180's further into the case to get a -.015 jump. I shot the rifle without a chrono to sight in at 200 and play with the tuner. Things looked good and I still had some loaded rds so I went to 1000 and played with the tuner. Tuner set at 28 is 4 rds. and Tuner at 25 is 6 rds. (only 5 spotters because could not fit another between the two touching!) all other groups are 5 rds. After looking at results for 1000 I figured something between 26 and 24 should work so I shot my last 6 rds with tuner at 25.
I may have just gotten lucky, but the tuner does work. I will do a proper 100 yard load development a la Erik Cortina and then play with the tuner!
Here are the results:
