Neil Jones FL bushing die

I have a SAAMI chamber 280 AI that's causing me some grief. My Redding body die is sizing the shoulder down .005" and .007" down above web, causing donuts to form after second firing.

I'm considering having Neil build me a custom die that will solve my over-sizing. I normally use the Redding bushings but I think I might like his unique bushing style. I would appreciate any feedback from shooters using his dies.

Neil is a great guy and meticulous. It is a pleasure to deal with him because he communicates with you in a timely manner and cares about his product. He made me dies and multiple bushings for a 338-375 wildcat and the tolerances are outstanding. He can also make you different size adapters if you get into the 375 cheytac and larger calibers to fit your press. In my opinion his dies are reasonably priced for the quality you receive. Also, his time-line for completion is shorter than most other custom die makers you might work with, at least it was with me.

Call and talk to him. He will tell you if he can help you. Neil lives 45 minutes away from me. Great guy to deal with. He is very direct and don't beat around the bush.

LOL, I did talk to him, last week. He was out shooting, so I didn't want to take up too much of his time. He told me to fire some new brass 3 times, only neck sizing and damn sure don't anneal it. Reckon I'll do exactly what he said.

I'd call Redding. Their dies usually work pretty well with minimum saami chambers. But they do have variations. They may replace it.

I've considered that, Alex, but figured it would turn in to a long trial & error debacle. I talked to Redding techs and sent them the die and 5 fired cases. Even suggested they size with 5 different body dies to find a better fit. Their conclusion was that it was the Nosler brass, being too soft, causing the donuts.

Neil is the best, and I don't mean that in a Ford-VS-Chevy way. I own and use dies from nearly every mfgr on the planet as well as making my own when need be and Neil's dies ARE the best price/quality deal available. But he is a small manufacturer, there will be a wait

I wish he made a die that takes wilson type bushings but having the shoulder inside the bushing i understand why he does it

And BTW some of them have neck, shoulder and .1-.2 of the casebody all in one. ie the joint is down below the shoulder......friggin' GENius
