Need to tap into some experience on barrel FinalFinish TMS...

Has anyone on here used David Tubb's Final Finish TMS system? They claim to improve accuracy and extend barrel life. Can anyone support or deny those claims?

I would change your heading to has anyone used tubbs final finish. It will attract more responses.

I used them on one barrel that was accurate but had some tooling marks & fouled pretty easily. I only ran the 3 finest grits which I THINK from memory are 800-1000-1200 grit. 5 shots each with complete cleaning before & after each string. It definitely made the barrel easier to clean and it also picked up a slight improvement in accuracy. I have heard that fire lapping in this fashion creates a tapered bore BUT I certainly don't have the equipment to measure it. I wouldn't hesitate to use it again but haven't because I started buying lapped barrels. That barrel last year doing an impact check at 300 yds before a hunting trip put 5 bullets into a .202 group with ballistic tips so I wouldn't be concerned about hurting accuracy. One of my best shooting barrels.

Correction, pulled out my Tubbs kit & they are marked #1-#5, with no grit rating BUT they are definitely not finer than 400. I used #3-#5 as per their instructions for good shooting barrels.

Yes, I have use both the final finish kit and the TMS (throat maintenance system) kit. The final finish was in a rougher barrel which fouled more then others. I occasionally run one or two TMS bullets though after a major clean, but I don't know if it is doing anything as the expected results would be hard to judge.
Now that I don't have any guns still running factory barrels and can't for see any in the future, I don't think I will be needing to use the rest of the final finish bullets, but if I was to get another hunting rifle with a rough factory barrel, I would certainly try the final finish kit again.

Thanks for the advice Jon.

Larry, that is good info. Sounds like the barrel that I am working with is in about the same condition as the one that you had your experience with.
