Need to polish a chamber

I have a circumferential scratch in my chamber about .010 back from the shoulder. It got a chip drag when the barrel got chambered. Its not too bad but it is enough to make extraction difficult sometimes. Is this something that I can polish out at home without too much risk of screwing it up? Ive heard of guys using a bore mop and JB paste on a cleaning rod chucked in a drill, is this a terrible idea, or is it that simple? Please, lets keep responses steered away from comments like "your smith should fix it". He has offered too, but is in the middle of moving his shop right now.

Find someone with a lathe and see if it can be worked out with maroon scotchbrite. The barrel almost needs to be spun rather that spinning the abrasive.

I've modified a fired case, cutting off the shoulder and drilled/tapped the primer hole and use it as a medium with clover compound.

If the scratch is big enough to cause extraction issues, polishing it out will make chamber too big.
