Need to get a barrel blackened

I have a SS Kreiger that I'm almost done dialing in and I want to get it blackened to reasonably match a melonited BAT action. Asked my gunsmith but he does not have anyone because he's primarily a BR smith.

Thanks

I am having one done for the same reason. My smith is cerakoting it graphite black I believe, he says it matches the melonite pretty well.

KG-GunKote or Dura Coat will work as well. It will out last the black residual finish of the melonite treatment.

You really are kidding about that I imagine, or you have never handled a melonited part before...
I'll bet the farm you can drill right through the KG-GunKote or Dura Coat without a problem with a HHS drill !!! Try that with a melonited part, and you'll be buying a lot of HSS drills........

Im with preacher. Once it is melonited it is hard as a normal case hardened piece of steel.

Sorry I guess my OP was unclear. I'm looking for a recommendation for a professional at applying coatings, not a product. They must be highly qualified and experienced, I don't want any mistakes.

Melonite on a barrel is NOT an option for me.

Thanks

I'm confused. :-[

Sorry... I need a person or company to do this for me. And I need someone who is highly experienced, not some one that does it part time in his garage. Cerakote would be fine.

Thanks

Mim Trutec is sure as 'ell a professional organization. They melonite thousands of military barrels and I believe they did your Bat receiver. You might search the forum. A lot of info is at your finger tips.

Wow, there is a lot of part time folks that do a good job..I have seen Duracoat jobs done at home that are pretty nice

Thanks, but as I said before meloniting a barrel is not an option for me.

I believe you but I have heard stories of "part time folks" getting the coating, (whatever coating) inside the barrel. Not going to take that chance.

Don't know why I didn't think of Robar? Maybe I always associate them with pistols?

Thanks

Thats hilarious!!.... Good luck

There is a local guy here that ceracoats. His work is very very particular because he is very anal about everything. I think the company is called KW Customs or something like that. He's in Pottstown, PA and posts on this forum.
Personally, I don't have a need for Ceracoat, but if I did, he'd be the guy I would have do it from what I have seen of his work.

Lol, thanks John I am a bit anal!!!... And to add I've learned quite a bit from a guy that works from a garage too!

Point being it doesn't matter where the work is performed its the ability to do it and the outcome that matters..... I'll go back to my basement shop now! ;)

To the original poster you will be pleased with either Kampfeld custom or Jon Beanland
