Need suggestion on how to mount a gong

Hey guys, i'm getting frustrated. I purchased a 4" dia. x .500" thick round AR500 gong and i'm trying to figure out a removable method of hanging the gong off our 200 meter gong rack at my LGC. I first tried chain and that lasted 4 shots. I tried 1/8" steel cable and that was better but I eventually blew the cable "U" clamp. Looking for some ideas on a hanging material that can withstand .223 bullets. I was thinking rubber bungies but i'm thinking the gong impact will tear the bungies. Any tips would be much appreciated !

Use a strip of rubber mud flap or rubber belting . One guy uses old fire hoses. Some thing 4" or so wide. That way you"ll spend more time shooting ,less time repairing.
On the 24hourcampfire forum one guy sell a bracket that bolts to the back of your gong and fits over a steel T post.

I semi mudflap or rubber conveyor belting works well. I've also cut up used tires with a sawzall and used a piece of the sidewall.

Thanks for the tips, i'll scope out some rubber. I seem to remember I have some cord reinforced thick rubber sheets somewhere at my work...

MR Majestic, what does your post mean?
Jon, EH is correct and I was just being silly with "The Gong Show" reference.
"I loved that act, I loved that act but then I love the Northbound end of a Southbound Donkey" Chuck Barris.
Don't get much better than Gene Gene The Dancing Machine and the Unknown Comic!
Sorry for getting off course OP! ;)

Road_Clam,

I use hay bailer belt, from Tractor Supply. Bolted on the back side with grade 8 bolts. It will take may hits.

I have hung them with mechanics wire, it won't take a hit but real easy to fix fast. I also have used hi-tensile wire, works well and it also won't take a hit, easy to repair. I have steel re-rod portable target holders that I hang these from at my 300yd range. The idea of the rubber is good and the skidder chain is good. I have welded scrap chain and it will last a while but usually one of my friends takes the chain out with some cannon. That is why I went with the wire options and they work pretty good. We also use a straightened coat hanger for hanging clay pigeons, again easy replacement of hanger just nail up another.

I am an active HP metallic silhouette shooter. I also own my own set of swinger animal targets. I welded a 5/8ths bolt to the animals and attach a looped strip of tire tread to hang them. The swing stops quick and the straps will last a long time. There is no exposed hardware to get shot up.

I think the one at manatee has 1/2 by 1 1/2 in flat bar welded the narrow way and the edge sharpened. Its been several years since Ive been there , but I am going Friday and Ill check.

I hang mine with chain, which you have to fix once in a while. I have shot plenty that have been hung with conveyor belt and firehose during all types of shoots with no down time. I like the firehose best, just need to get some.
