Need some vision advice

Apparently my eyes have changed, and I can't seem to find a solution to the problem.
When I'm shooting iron sights this is when the issue rears its ugly head.
At 100 yds. the target and the front sight are both clear, but at 1,000 yds. the aiming bull appears as two images, side by side. So far, I have started trying Knobloch glasses to get the front sight sharp and a 1.75 lens seems to do the trick. I have went to a larger front aperture (5.0-6.0) but still can't see the target clearly. As an aside note, I'm running a .5 magnifier lens in the front sight.
Has anyone had a similar issue, and what did you do to correct it.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Lloyd

Probably time for a visit to your eye Dr. if you haven't been in a while.

Both eyes open or one closed?
Do you have an astigmatism?
Is the lens in your Knobloch glasses your distance prescription plus maybe 1/4 or 1/2 diopter or just plus 1.75?

If you are getting some miles on your eyes, you might be needing a little focusing help that only your eye Doc can fix.

Hope this helps,

Frank

Shoot with the off eye closed.
Already been to the Dr.it's first place I went but he has a hard time grasping the concept. :(He is great for eye glasses, but struggles with my issue.
I don't know if I have astigmatism, but the symptoms say I do.
Going to try the Gehmann product suggested by Martin52. After some research, this sounds like the remedy.
I'll know in a few days if the product is the answer or not.
Thanks,

Lloyd

Sounds like you have seen an Optometrist and you may need an Ophthalmologist (MD).

Your doctor should know if you have astigmatism or not. If you haven't then ask him.

if the first doctor you went to could not tell you the problem go to a different doctor-as said above an opthomologist would be best bet

Lloyd,
Your profile says you're retired...so you're probably similar in age to me.

I grew up hunting in MO. Couldn't afford a scope, never even looked through one as a kid. Shot hundreds of squirrels through the head with open sights on a 22. Had 20/10 vision.

About 50, I needed reading glasses. Noticed open sights are getting fuzzy. By 55 they were pretty unsuable for precision work. I can still line up the fuzzy dots on a pistol and hit CM on a silouette pretty well but I've put lasers on all my personal handguns.

I put a scope on my 22 and don't shoot open sights any more.

I'm not saying that it can't be one of the more serious suggestions above and I'm not saying that you shouldn't see a doctor. But normal aging makes your lens less flexible, harder to focus, and often affects near vision making it hard to do the open sight thing.

My everyday glasses are line-less trifocals. the go from -0- at distance to a 1.75 for close work. I'm still 20/15 corrected at 61 years old. Just saw the Optometrist this spring to get this problem corrected, so I guess I'll be seeking a Dr.
Thanks,

Lloyd

Agreed! What can it hurt? I am about to go see one for the first time in 40 of my 50 years. There has to be a difference between an Opthamologist and an Optometrist, particularly in a special use case.
