Need Savage BBL Install help in Ohio

As the title says, I need help installing a Savage barrel. I've never done it, and honestly I am not 100% confident in doing it myself. I will provide the headspace gauges( the barrel is a 6br ai), and am happy to pay for your time. If you can help, please let me know.

Do you have the barrel vice, nut wrench?
If so, it's easier than your thinking it is.

If you were in central PA. i'd teach you how to do it.
There are numerous Youtube videos on it.
It really is that easy.

I don't have anything lol. I know I should just bite the bullet, and buy everything. And most likely will, but would feel more confident having someone walk me through it.

If you have the action & barrel nut wrench the rest is fairly simple. There are a few you tube videos you can follow.
If you were closer I would be more than happy to help ( I have the tools) takes about half an hour the first time.

The only thing i do different than the videos, is i actually use a torque wrench to tighten the barrel nut to 80 ftlb.
Almost all the videos show just giving a couple of wacks with a hammer.

Are you a member of a nearby club, that you shoot at. I bet there is someone at your club that could help you. Especially, there is a long range presence there. Once you do it, you'll see it's a piece of cake. And you'll be switching barrels like a madman.

It's relatively easy. The hardest thing will be removing the factory barrel.

BTW, once you are successful in changing a barrel, be prepared to spend the kid's college fund on more barrels.

Steven, I will loan you you my barrel nut wrench, but you will still need the barrel vise and other equipment the other guys mention above. Lots of good vises out there for reasonable prices. You're gonna need more stuff anyway.

The nut wrench and headspace gauges you need to buy. But you can make a barrel vice from a hard wood block (maple is best, but oak will work). Measure the barrel shank and bore a hole that is centered in the block, the hole size should be a tiny bit under the barrel shank diameter, for 100% contact. Then saw the block in half, longitudinally. Use those halves to clamp your barrel in a good bench vise. You might need rosin to stop the barrel from turning (sometimes "painters" tape will work too), especially the factory barrel. But this will work fine for installing your new barrel, since the torque required is not very much.

If you are going to throw the old barrel away, you could use a pipe vise or the pipe jaws on your bench vise to hold it for removal. I am a fan of the "big hammer" technique for removal and the "rubber hammer" for installation.

Some here are advocating a barrel vise. I use an action wrench instead. You don't really need both. NSS makes a very good action wrench.
