Need Recoil pad for 30BR due to two shoulder operations

Border Ghost
Would anyone suggest a recoil pad or some type of reducing system for a 30BR , I have had two operations on my shoulder and can start to feel soreness after about 30 rounds . any information would be great , store or home made.
Thx

Try a Kickeez pad or a towel draped over your shooting shoulder, I've been using the towel for a while due to weight constraints on rifle...I too have bad shoulders!

Saw some guys at the Berger SWN with some sort of recoil suppression on the butt of the rifle. They were a team and all had the same stocks. I watched them shoot and it seemed to reduce the movement of the body during recoil. The were the Berger Bullet guys. Might contact them for the name of the system

I was just looking at a Limb Saver Air Tech recoil pad on Amazon the other day. If I remember correctly it stated about a 70% reduction of felt recoil.

I had two surgeries on my left shoulder, one bad doctor and one very good doctor.

You DO NOT NEED a pad, what you need is a muzzle break to reduce total impact energy on your shoulder, trust me!

Or, even better, this redneck recoil reducer

Also, 30 BR has a LOT of recoil, screw a 6 BR on. You better take heed~!

Do something to reduce the amount of recoil ft/lbs on your shoulder joint, a recoil pad is NOT what you should be looking for.

For the average guy a 30BR does not have a lot of recoil. My GF has shot mine in a few matches and she's 125 pounds soaking wet. Christ sake Kevin Donalds JR started with a 30BR when he was 12 years old back in 2013. Rick cannot use a muzzle brake. He is going to shoot in registered short range benchrest matches and u can't have a brake on the barrel so that's out. Rick you can try buying a C&H research Mercury Recoil Suppressor that u can put in your stock. Also I told you that I bought 2 complete Rimrock rifles just recently, well the one that I bought from an old timer in Maine had a Pachmayr White Line recoil pad installed on an R&M stock. I'm sure Jim installed it when he built the rifle because it was such a nice job done installing it.

the pachmayr xlt magnum shotgun is a great pad for heavy rifle loads. The medium fits the remington 700 profile with only a little sanding.

I wouldnt alter the weight of the gun at all id be strappin on a trapshooters gel pad. My 13.5lb 30br never touches my shoulder same as all my br rifles. If they do something is wrong with my setup and it aint shootin

I used one of these after my motorcycle accident and it did the job. However, I was shooting a 25.06 at the time.

A reconstructed rotator cuff, tendons reattached does not take much punishment at all, and laying down in a bed is never the same. Weather fronts where barometric pressure drops can be predicted.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I'm with Rusty on this one. Figure out padding for the shoulder, not the rifle and don't alter the rifle setup, especially if you intend to compete. The "brake" thing is fine as long as you don't compete. But it can also alter (barrel harmonics) the accuracy if not installed by a competent person.

I am right handed and tore my right rotator cuff about 10 years ago.
My BR rifle then was a mild 6ppc. At the range one day I asked a friend if I could try testing the recoil with his 30BR. From a rest, I fired a shot with the gun tight against my shoulder and it was a pussycat. He convinced me to try it free recoil just as I shoot my ppc. Did so, and the recoil did not bother me at all. Since then I have had two rifles chambered in 30BR, and numerous rebarrels. The recoil never bothers me.

Don't knock the redneck recoil pad, I use one when I sight in my Ithica 12ga with slugs.

I have used the Past recoil pad with some success over the last 7 yrs in competition and am able to shoot free recoil with my 30br. I developed a wicked flinch after getting tagged in the bridge of the nose a few times and realized I was focusing more on the possible pain than on the flags. Once I used the pad those flags started talking to me again.
It is affectionately known as my manzier or my Bro, but it gets the job done. Does take some practice to integrate it but it is very doable once you learn.
